Liverpool edge Ajax, Lewandowski fires blank in Barca Champions League defeat

Football star Joel Matip’s late header against Ajax at Anfield gave Liverpool their first Champions League win this season. Boss Jurgen Klopp demanded a reaction to the “horror show” of the 4-1 defeat at Napoli in their group opener and this was certainly a vast improvement. Liverpool created plenty of openings and deservedly went ahead when Mohamed Salah swept home Diogo Jota’s pass. Mohammed Kudus’ searing shot went in off the underside of the bar to level but Matip’s 89th minute header won it. Daley Blind missed a great chance to put Ajax ahead late on before Matip – who last scored in the Champions League nine years ago – rose to head the winner, which was confirmed by goal-line technology. They will next face Rangers in Matchday 3. Bayern Munich beat Barcelona 2-0 at the Allianz Arena, to make it two wins from two in the Champions League this season. The game had been billed as the Robert Lewandowski show which, given that it was his first time back at the Allianz Arena since leaving Bayern for Barca in July, was to …

King Charles III owns estate almost as big as Chicago amid British Royal Family’s estimated $28 billion fortune — Report

The wealth of the British Royal family remains a closely guarded secret but it is said to run into billions of dollars. Last year, Forbes put the headline value of its holdings at $28 billion, theoretically making the Windsors (House of Windsor is reigning royal house of the UK and other Commonwealth realms) one of the two richest clans in Britain. Among those holdings are instantly recognisable icons like Buckingham Palace and crown jewels. Also included are vast tracts of land, from office properties and a major cricket ground in London to farmland on Britain’s outer edges, New York Times reports. But not all of that belongs to the Royal house. The three largest parts of the royal holdings are as follows: The Crown Estate, a 16.5 billion pound ($19.2 billion) portfolio of real estate that includes £8 billion worth of retail property in London’s West End, commercial land around the nation and even the British seabed. It generated £327.8 million in operating profit in its most recent fiscal year, up 8 percent from the previous year. (That said, the …
