Precise Post recalls that the Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai yesterday claimed that Peter Obi ordered his detaintion and indeed detained him in Awka in 2013 for two hours. The University of Benin has announced a resumption date.  The university said students are expected to return to school on Sunday in line with the institution’s amended academic calendar after the suspension of the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities which lasted for eight months.  A statement on Wednesday by the institution’s spokesperson, Dr Benedicta Ehanire, stated, “The University of Benin Senate has amended the Institution’s 2020/2021 academic calendar and approved Sunday 23rd October, 2022, for students to return to halls of residence. “Lectures are expected to continue on 24th October as the 2nd Semester was truncated for eight months following the recently suspended strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. The semester is to run until 23rd December. “Meanwhile, online registration of new students admitted for the 2021/2022 begins on the 2nd of December. “The Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, solicited the cooperation and support of staff and students to ensure successful academic activities.”  

Two primary elections for State House of Assembly conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Yobe state have been nullified. T he Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital nullified the exercise on Wednesday.  Delivering the judgement, Justice Fadima Aminu directed the APC to conduct fresh primary elections for the affected positions within 14 days.  The affected constituencies are Fika/Ngalfa and Jaskusko.  Details later…    

Nigerian politician, Pat Utomi’s son, Patrick’s wife, Maya Famodu Utomi, has made some revelations about their wedding. She revealed the tragic incident that happened which made them quickly get married. Recall that the couple had their wedding last week and their wedding photos were shared online. Some of her friends were surprised as they had no incline that the two lovebirds were getting married. In a post shared on social media, Maya explained that they were expecting a baby when she suddenly began to experience complications. Patrick who was away, had to fly to Nigeria to be by her side. Sadly, they lost their baby. She said the sad event revealed how much they need each other, so they decided to quickly get married at the Utomi’s home. Mr Macaroni Mr Macaroni, a popular Nigerian skit maker, actor and activist, has announced a peaceful walk to commemorate the second anniversary of the #EndSARS protest against police brutality. The 29-year-old who made the announcement in a Twitter post on Wednesday said the peaceful walk would honour victims of the October 20 protest at Lekki toll gate in Lagos. He wrote: “Peaceful Walk tomorrow in honor of all #EndSars and Police Brutality Victims!!! We no go fit ever forget!”

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, and others involved in the 2023 campaigns have been told to resign in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive.  A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Musa Sarkin Adar representing Gada Goronye Federal Constituency in Sokoto revealed this in an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday.  He was reacting to the directive issued by President Buhari to Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and Heads of Government Agencies that they should not abandon their official duties for political campaigns.  The President gave the directive on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Ministerial Performance Review Retreat, saying that any infraction will be viewed seriously.  Speaking on the matter, Adar said Keyamo and other government appointees actively involved in campaigns should immediately resign or get sacked.  The lawmaker said no minister or any other government official should take advantage of their office to run for office without tendering his or her resignation letter.  He said: “The President’s directive to his ministers that nobody should abandon his statutory official work as minister to go …

Zainab Ahmed A budget of N3.36 trillion has been allocated for fuel subsidy in the first half of 2023.  Zainab Ahmed, the minister of finance, made this known on Wednesday, October 19, in Abuja. Ahmed said the 2023 budget proposal has a deficit of N10.78 trillion. She said the deficit will be funded through domestic and multilateral borrowings and proceeds from privatisation. According to her, of Nigeria’s $102bn debt, 35% is foreign and 65% is domestic, adding that the current public debt is at 23% of the country’s gross domestic product. The minister also said the 2023 budget also factored in 17.16% inflation. According to her, the draft 2023 budget has been prepared on the background of international challenges such as the Russia-Ukraine war and COVID-19 pandemic, adding that revenue generation has been a major challenge to national development in the country. On allocations for critical sectors, Ahmed said the sum of N2.05 triliion was allocated to education and N1.58 trillion for health.
