I feel Nigeria is the way it is because leaders and followers alike do not sit back to take in the lessons that are suposed to shape us into a great nation. In penning my thoughts, I’ll do so randomly without paying attention to how well thought out and presented same should be. I advise anyone reading to simply take the message and run with it. To begin, I think the rot we call out today are products of our making – everyone is guilty as charged. Most times, when I attend functions and events and see how Nigerians infuse their speeches with patriotic delivery, I wonder why Nigeria has still not changed in spite of the quality of ideas. Court Remands Man, 22, Over Alleged Murder

Funmilayo Okunade Ado-Ekiti, – An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of a 22-year old man, Emmanuel Owolabi, at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged murder. The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged murder. The police prosecutor, Insp Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 22 in Ado-Ekiti.Olasunkanmi alleged that the defendant murdered his 55-year old mother,  Mrs Eunice Owolabi, whom he strangled to death. He noted that the offence contravened Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending issuance of legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).The plea of the defendant was not taken.The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.He adjourned the case until Jan.16 for mention.(NAN)

Flood: IFAD commences distribution of input for dry season rice farming in Taraba

By Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo The federal government assisted, Intenational Fund for Agriculture Development IFAD/ Value Chain Development programme (VCDP), on Friday flagged off the distribution of farm inputs for dry season rice farming to cushion the effects of flooding in Taraba state. They also distributed starter kits to selected women who were trained in various entrepreneur skills. The state Governor Darius Ishaku who was represented by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. David Ishaya Kasa expressed said that the IFAD support was coming to cushion the losses incurred by some farmers dueto flood in the wet season production. Anambra Govt. Budgets N5.7 Billion For Health In 2023

By Lucy Osuizigbo-Okechukwu Awka, – The Anambra State Government said it allocated the sum of N5.7 billion in the 2023 budget to fund the healthcare needs of residents in the state. Dr Afam Obidike, the state Commissioner for Health, said this on Friday, while defending the Ministry’s budget before the State House of Assembly Committee on Health. Obidike said: “The Ministry of health got about N5.7 billion which is about 4 per cent of the total budget of the state. Yes, it did not met the 15 per cent target agreed upon in the Abuja Declaration but we understand the challenges the state is facing. “We have other partners and the private sector who would assist the health sector via counterpart funding. “It is not like health is not important, but we are part of the government and we understand that the major focus of this administration is road infrastructure.” Highlighting some of the Ministry’s achievements in 2022, the Commissioner said that about 300 health personnel were recruited to address shortage of health personnel in the state. “When I assumed …

FG Donates Relief Materials To Bauchi Flood Victims

By Olaide Ayinde Bauchi, – The Federal Government on Friday called for transparency in the distribution of food and non-food relief materials to flood victims in 10 local government areas of Bauchi State. The Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ahmed Habib, made the call while presenting the items to Ibrahim Kashim, Secretary to the State Government, in Bauchi. He said the relief materials would alleviate the sufferings of the victims in the affected local government areas — Kirfi, Alkaleri, Misau, Jama’are, Warji, Shira, Katagum, Darazo, Zaki and Ningi. Habib, represented on the occasion by Hajiya Ummunah, Head of Operations, Gombe Office, sympathised with the victims and the state government over the disaster. Alleged N124m Fraud: EFCC Prays Court To Convict Ex-NIHORT Director, Accountant 

By Suleiman ShehuIbadan, – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Friday prayed an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan to convict a former NIHORT Director, Ademola Idowu and former NIHORT Accountant, Isiah Ajisafe of N124 million fraud. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that EFCC is prosecuting Idowu and Ajisafe for allegedly stealing a total sum of N124 million belong to the National Horticultural Research Institutes,Ibadan (NIHORT) while in office. The EFCC’s counsel, Mr AbdulRasheed Suleiman,  while adopting his final written address before the court said the evidence before the court and exhibits tendered by the prosecutio has established that the defendants opened secret accounts where NIHORT’s funds were secretly moved to by the defendants and eventually stolen. The EFCC’s counsel further said that he has been able to establish to the court that the defendants were the sole signatory to the two secret accounts and as well split contracts which was above their threshold and abused their offices. NDLEA Drags Teenager To Court Over Alleged Drug Trafficking

By Sandra UmehLagos, – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Friday charged a 19-year-old unemployed man, Abdullahi Aliyu before a Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged drug trafficking. In the five-count charge sheet bordering on illegal peddling of restricted narcotics, the NDLEA Counsel, Mr Lambert Nor alleged that Aliyu committed the offence on Oct. 13 at the Alaba Rago market area of Ojo, Lagos. He alleged that the suspect was caught with 1.2kg of Tramadol, 32g of Rophynol and 2kg of Diazepam. The NDLEA said the drugs are categorised as restricted narcotics which are prohibited under the NDLEA Act. The offence, the NDLEA said, contravened the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Caps N30 Law of the Federation 2004. The act provides a penalty of life imprisonment if convicted on the offence. A date is yet to be fixed for arraignment of the suspect. (NAN)
