Gombe Govt. Releases N1.5bn For Payment Of Gratuities

By Peter UwumarogieGombe, – Gombe State Government, on Tuesday, said it had released N1.5bn for payment of gratuities to its retirees. Gov. Inuwa Yahaya, who announced the payment in Gombe, said that his administration inherited N24 billion gratuities accruable to both the state and local government areas. Yahaya said that on assumption of office in 2019, he pledged his administration’s commitment to paying the liabilities that fell within his tenure. He also recalled that his pledge included payment of backlogs of gratuities so as to move the state forward. “This is the right pedestal that can make us progress without any problem, especially if we are to leave behind a good state for our children,’ he said. The governor said payment had so far been made for three years and that efforts were on to align the state with the Federal Government to ensure payment of backlog of gratuities through contributory pension. By Afusat Agunbiade-Oladipo Ilorin, – After one and half year legal tussle, an Ilorin High Court on Tuesday sentenced killers of Olajide Blessing Omowumi, a 300 level student of the University of Ilorin, to death by hanging.The deceased, who would had turned 26 years this year, was raped and murdered in a merciless manner by the assailants.The trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Yusuf, who handed down the judgment, convicted the 1st, 2nd and 3rd suspects; Abdulazeez Ismail, Ajala Oluwatimileyin and Oyeyemi Omogbolahan, for the offences of culpable homicide and armed robbery, ordering that they should die by hanging.“I direct you Abdulazeez Ismail, Ajala Oluwatimileyin and Oyeyemi Omogbolahan, should be hanged by the neck until you’re pronounced dead,” the judge pronounced.In the 165 pages judgment, which was delivered for four hours, the court also sentenced the 4th and 5th suspects to three years imprisonment for the offence of theft.Earlier, the court has discharged and acquitted the 6th, 7th and 8th suspects; Abdullateef Abdulrahman, Daud Aderayo and Akande Oladoja on the basis that they were not found guilty of any charges against them.According …

Yuletide: Foundation Donates Food Items To Widows In Lagos

By Adekunle Williams/Oluwatope Lawanson Lagos – As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the management of Revolution Plus Property under the Chris Bamidele Onalaja Foundation (CBOF), on Tuesday donated food items to 500 widows in Ikeja in celebration of the Yuletide. The food items donated included rice and groundnut oil. The Group Managing Director, Revolution Plus Group, Mr Bamidele Onalaja, during the distribution, said no fewer than 1,000 widows had been empowered since inception of the programme in 2019. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the foundation’s core areas include basic education and scholarship, economic and community development, among others. Onalaja noted that various batches of widows had so far benefited in the entrepreneurial skills, adding that they were trained in skills they could use to start small business and awarded cash gift after weeks of training. NYSC DG Tasks Corps Members On Community Projects, Security Conscious

By Habibu Harisu Wamakko (Sokoto State), – The acting Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Christy Ubah, has urged corps members to initiate impactful community development vprojects and be security conscious at all times. Ubah gave the advice on Tuesday while addressing the 2022 Batch C, stream II, corp members at the NYSC orientation camp, Wamakko Local Government Area in Sokoto state. She urged the corps members to initiate viable projects that would impact positively on their host communities during the service year to boost development. Ubah enjoined the corps members to avoid free rides so as not to become victims of the tricks of criminals and refrain from unnecessary journeys during thier service year. Governor Umahi of Ebonyi State David Umahi, the Government of Ebonyi State has given a serious directive to security agencies. The Government on Monday directed all security agencies, including “Ebubeagu’’ Security Outfit (the Southeast regional security agency) to kill any miscreant found with a gun or dangerous weapons. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was tension and palpable fear in Abakaliki on Monday following alleged enforcement of a “sit-at-home’’ order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Residents were seen running for safety along the popular old Enugu Expressway and Kpirikpiri axis over an alleged invasion by IPOB members who were rumoured to be shooting sporadically. Senate Ad-hoc committtee summons NIRSALS over allegation of uneven loan disbursement

By Abubakar Liman The Senate Ad-hoc committtee on uneven disbursement of loans, grants, interventions in the six-geopolitical regions by Nigeria’s Development banks on Monday summoned the management of Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) to appear before it unfailingly on Thursday. The committee also mandated the management NIRSAL micro finance to come and face the committee over allegation of uneven disbursement of loans, grants, interventions among others. The chairman of the committee, Senator Sani Musa (Niger East, APC) gave the ultimatum when the minister of state for Industry, Trade and Investment, Ambassador Mariam Katagum appeared before the committtee. Irked by absence of NIRSAL following repeated invitation, Musa said whether the Managing Director is there or not the management of the agency must appear before the committtee on Thursday.
