NEDC Trains, gives starter kits to 200 Taraba Youths in ICT

By Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo The North East Development Commission, NEDC has trained at least two hundred youths across the sixteen local government areas of Taraba state in Information and Communication Technology, ICT and given them starter packs to be self reliant. The beneficiaries were trained in graphics design and phone repairs in to enable them start up their own businesses and become employers of Labour. The Managing Director of the Commission, Goni Alkali, while speaking in Jalingo the Taraba state capital during the graduation ceremony, said the Commission is poised to bridge the skill gap in ICT across the North East region. Alkali who was represented by Benjamin Wesley, noted that Over 3500 youths have been trained and given start up kits to be self reliant. He pointed that 18 ICT training centres have been established by the Commission in Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno and Yobe states and urged the trainees to extend the knowledge to others in their community by training more youths through mentorship. The two Bills are for the establishment of Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Obuoffia, Awkunanaw and for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre, Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. Court remands woman for allegedly torturing 11-year-old maid to death in Jos

Justice B. Bassi of High Court 12, Jos, Plateau State has remanded Mrs Nneamaka Nwachuku for allegedly torturing her 11-year-old house help, Margret Joshua to death.  Late Margret was reportedly tortured to death on November 11, 2022, by  Nwachukwu after pouring hot water on her body, a development that subsequently led to her death. The House of Representatives postponed the appearance of the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele to next week. The appearance was rescheduled on Thursday after Emefiele notified the lawmakers that he travelled with President Muhammadu Buhari to Washington. It would be recalled that Emefiele was asked to appear before the House to explain the new withdrawal limit policy. Appeal court sets aside judgement sacking all APC candidates in Rivers

An Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Thursday set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt presided over by Justice Emmanuel Obile which sacked all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 elections. The APC and its candidates had approached the Appeal Court to challenge a judgement of Justice Obile in the matter filed by one George Orlu and 5 others. The three-man panel of the appeal in its judgment delivered by the lead judge, Justice Muhammed Lawal Shuaibu said George Orlu and 5 others did not exhaust the internal party mechanisms before instituting the suit. The court also held that the respondents in the Appeal did not participate in the congress of the APC and therefore did not have any cause for the action. The panel said it was inconceivable for the Federal High Court Judge not to have joined the candidates of APC who are interested parties in the suit. Delta Jerusalem church wins case to demolish illegal 3-storey building on its land

The New Jerusalem Church of God, Victoria Parish Headquarters, in Warri, Delta State has obtained a court judgement with a five million naira damage awarded in its favour in the contention over a piece of land at 49 Iyara Street, Warri South Local Government Area. The land measures 855.58 798.10 square metres. The church specifically obtained the judgement in the suit it brought against one Mr Tongbe Solomon Esinmaje who constructed an uncompleted three-story building on a portion belonging to the church. Esimaje, thereafter, dragged the church before the Delta State High Court 3 sitting in Warri with the intention to allegedly claim ownership of the land. Based on the judgement obtained, the Church today demolished the uncompleted three-storey building constructed on its portion of land.
