By Chris Udochukwu As we approach the February 25 general elections, the spokesperson of the Musa Kwankwaso Presidential Campaign, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has dismissed the chances of  Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) inheriting President Muhammadu Buhari’s 12 million bloc votes. Precise Post recalls that Buhari contested five presidential elections  – 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019. He got at least 12 million votes in each of the exercises except in 2007 and won the 2015 polls with 15 million votes (got the same number when he was re-elected in 2019) under the APC. However, Jubrin who left the APC for Kwankwaso’s New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), said his former party won’t retain Buhari’s 12 million bloc votes. Gov Adeleke approves new transport management for Osun

A new transport management system which has triple objectives of securing the motor parks, creating thousands of jobs and increasing the state’s internally generated revenue was announced by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on Monday in Osogbo. Making the announcement via a statement by Olawale Rasheed, his spokesperson, Adeleke described the new transport management model as a fulfilment of his earlier promise to sanitize the current park system. Adeleke had also promised to ensure commuters enjoyed a new lease of safe and secured transportation within the state. Governor Adeleke had also reiterated the need for an overhaul of the state transport system adding that the approved new structure has a supervisory Disciplinary Committee to supervise all the activities of the two sectors in the transport system namely vehicles and cycles. Zamfara PDP expels 2023 governorship aspirant

A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State, Ibrahim Shehu has been expelled for alleged anti-party activities. According to the expulsion letter signed by Hon. Aliyu Hassan, the party’s secretary in Mayana Ward, Shehu was expelled due to anti-party activities contrary to Article 58(1) (a,b,c) of the party’s 2017 amended constitution. The letter stated that the Mayana Ward Working Committee of the party took the decision effective from January 2023. Recalled that Ibrahim Shehu was twice responsible for the nullification of the party’s governorship primary election. All efforts by the press to get a reaction from Ibrahim Shehu, a member of the Federal House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015, proved abortive. Meanwhile, the state chapter of the party claimed ignorant of the development, saying it has not been notified officially by the ward, and that the allegations against Shehu would be properly investigated before any action is taken.

The Department of State Service, DSS, and its Director General have been dragged before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, for the arrest of rights activist, Meliga Godwin, over a press conference he addressed condemning the agency for the planned arrest of the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele. Meliga Godwin, the President of Middle Belt Youth Forum, on December 19, 2022, addressed the media where he condemned the DSS for its attempt to obtain an ex-parte order to arrest and detained the CBN Governor over alleged terrorism charges. At the press briefing, the activist condemned the actions of the DSS and described it as a hatchet job. He was later arrested by the operatives of the DSS on January 8, 2023. However, in a motion on notice for the enforcement of his fundamental rights with suit No: FCT/HC/CV/1034/2023, filed by his counsel, Mr Chibuzo Ezike, the applicant is asking the court to order his unconditional release by the DSS. Iran sentences three more to death over protests

Iran has sentenced three more protesters to death. They accuse the protesters of killing three members of the security forces during the protests triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini, the judiciary said Monday, Jan. 9. The Islamic republic has been rocked by civil unrest since the September 16 death of Kurdish Iranian Amini, 22, following her arrest for allegedly violating Iran’s strict dress code for women. The latest sentences bring to 17 the total number of people condemned to death in connection with the more than three months of protests. Four of those convicted have been executed and two others are on death row after their sentences were upheld by the country’s supreme court. Saleh Mirhashemi, Majid Kazemi and Saeed Yaghoubi were sentenced to death on charges of “moharebeh” — or waging “war against God” — the judiciary’s Mizan Online news website reported. Edo State – Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a former Edo State House of Assembly member, Festus Edughele. Edughele was kidnapped on Monday morning, January 9, 2023, in Ubiaja while travelling from Orhionmwon to Benin City, the state capital The ex-lawmaker was said to be on his way to Benin to board a plane to Abuja when he was abducted by the gunmen who took him into the bush. Dublin, – Ireland’s construction activity deteriorated at the fastest pace in five months in December amid continued falls in output and new orders as challenging economic conditions hit market demand. The survey results from S&P Global showed on Monday. The headline BNP Paribas Real Estate Ireland construction Purchasing Managers’ Index dropped to 43.2 in December from 46.8 in the previous month. Any reading below 50 indicates a contraction in the sector. There was a decrease in activity in all three monitored categories of construction during December, led once more by civil engineering. Housing activity decreased for the third straight month, while the softest fall in activity was seen on commercial projects. New orders fell for the ninth successive month in December, and at the fastest pace since August. By responding to these lower workloads, firms reduced their staffing numbers at the fastest pace since March 2021. On the price front, input price inflation was lower than in November and the lowest in 21 months. A 200-level student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, from the Department of Philosophy died on Sunday, January 8, after an armed robbery attack. The student whose name was simply given as Daniel was said to have been attacked by some gun-wielding robbers at Success lodge Ifite. The robbers who came to raid the lodge took his phone from him. Late Daniel is said to have attempted to collect his sim card from his phone, which was already with the robbers, when he was shot in the stomach. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died due to excessive loss of blood. Reacting to the incident, the Anambra state police command via its Twitter handle said ; ”This is unfortunate, I got this information from the SUG president, yesternight.
