The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has declared Wednesday, May 3 a public holiday to enable residents to give the President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu a rousing welcome.Tinubu who won the February 25 presidential election will embark on a two-day working visit in the state starting from May 3 to May 4. In a statement released by his Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri, Governor Wike said the President-elect during his two-day official visit, will commission some projects. “For us, it is an honour to the government and people of Rivers State to host the President-Elect on this historic visit. Consequently, I urge all Rivers citizens to come out en mass to receive our President-Elect, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and display the traditional Rivers hospitality as he commissions these legacy projects to God’s glory and the advancement of our development. Man butchers wife to death after she asked for divorce

A 25-year-old woman identified simply as Eunice has reportedly been murdered by her husband at Nungua in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana after she asked for a divorce.  Local publications reported that her husband macheted her during a scuffle and she died on the spot after the attack. The suspect was also said to have attacked his father-in-law. It was gathered that Eunice had moved out of the house due to the emotional and physical abuse by her husband. Her father, Ebenezer Dwomoh, who confirmed her death during an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, said they are still in shock. Dwomoh said Eunice went to her husband’s house to present a summon letter from Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit when the incident occurred. Internet Fraud: EFCC Arrests Proprietor Of ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ Training School And His Proteges In Enugu

Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, May 1, 2023, arrested eighteen suspected internet fraudsters in different locations within Enugu. The suspects include one Chigozie Philips, founder of Holy Family School Abakpa, Enugu, where he allegedly trains prospective cybercriminals.  Thirteen of his proteges who were arrested in the sting operation are Kingsley Okorie, Henry Chidiebere, Elochukwu Chukwuemeka Micheal, Nelson Nnaji, Joacin Kelvin, Kelechi Ibe, Chinonso James, Udeh Isaiah and Micheal Chukwuemeka. Others include Ifeanyi Ozor Bright, Etuma John, Okafor Chukwuemeka, Raymond Chinaza, Desmond James, Ozoma Chinonso Anthony, Uchenna Aka and Ozor Celestine. Items recovered from the suspects include 20 mobile phones and 2 laptops. The suspects have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.

Prominent Islamic Jihad leader, Adnan dies in Israeli prison

Palestinian and Israeli authorities on Tuesday reported the death of a prominent leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement (PIJ), Khader Adnan, who embarked on a hunger strike for 86 days. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club Association, a non-governmental organisation, said in a press statement that Adnan died in Israeli prison. The association said the hunger strike was Adnan’s sixth attempt in Israeli prisons. His last hunger strike began on February 5 after an Israeli army force stormed his house in Arraba, south of the northern West Bank city of Jenin and arrested him for the sixth time. The Israeli Prison Service said in a statement that Adnan, 45, was “found unconscious in his cell in Nitzan prison.” “A medical staff tried to resuscitate his heart before he was transferred to Assaf Harofeh Hospital, where his death was confirmed,” the statement said. It added that “Adnan refused to undergo medical examinations nor receive treatment during his hunger strike.”

EFCC fails to present witnesses as 1.3 million dollars fraud case against Zaura resumes

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, has failed to present witnesses in an alleged fraud case of $1.3 million dollars involving a Kano Businessman and an APC Kano Central Senatorial District candidate, Abdulkarim Abdussalam Zaura. When the case resumed at the Kano Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Muhammad Nasir Yunus, Prosecution Counsel, Sadik Hussaini said they were not ready to present their witnesses as was scheduled. Although Hussaini told the court that the case was slated for the commencement of the hearing, Tuesday, he urged the court to adjourn its sitting to enable him produce his witness on the next adjourned date. Seyi, son of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been linked to the purchase of a London mansion under fraud investigation by the federal government. Seyi reportedly bought the house in 2017 for $10.8m through his firm, Bloomberg reported. 4 Robbery Suspects Arrested One Month After Operation In Ogun

Four suspected members of a robbery syndicate terrorising Ota  and its environs in Ado-Odo/Ota LGA of the state have been arrested by the Ogun police command.  The suspects identified as Sherrif Kamoru, 28, Rabiu Seyidu, 37, Opeyemi Adebayo, 26 and Ajibola Fakolade, 21, were arrested following a complaint at Sango divisional headquarters by one Adeleye Sunday.  The complainant reported that he was attacked by some armed hoodlums in the Joju area of Ota. He told the police that the hoodlums took away his phones, inflicted injuries on him with machetes, and later transferred the sum of N600,000 from his account using bank apps on the phone.  The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi said after the complaint was made, the DPO Sango Ota division, CSP Saleh Dahiru, detailed his detectives to technically trace the suspects and bring them to justice. Ondo APC Suspends 30 For Anti-Party Activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has suspended 30 members in Akoko South East Local Government for alleged anti-party activities. The party said the affected persons undermined its chances during the 2023 general election by working for opposition political parties. The suspension was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary of Akoko South East Local Government, Mr. Segun Bakare. He said the suspension was first done at the wards before it was ratified at the local government level.
