Benin, May 8, (NAN) Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo, on Monday, approved the payment of 13th-month salary to Edo civil and public servants. Obaseki gave the approval during an interactive session with civil and public servants between Grade Levels 8 and 17 at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Benin City. He commended the workers for their support to his administration over the past six years He called for greater government-workers synergy to ensure the sustainability of the ongoing reforms designed to guarantee improved wellbeing for the people and economic prosperity for the state. Obaseki assured the people of his administration’s commitment to develop the Benin Port and other projects meant to place the state on the path of sustainable economic growth and development. Bandits Invade Church In Kaduna, kidnap 40 Worshippers

No fewer than 40 people were abducted by bandits during a church service at Bege Baptist Church, Madala along Buruku Baringi road in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.  The state chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna state Chapter, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, who confirmed the incident in an interview with newsmen, said the gunmen invaded the church on Sunday morning, May 7, 2023.  According to Rev. Hayab, 15 worshippers later escaped while the remaining 25 are still in captivity.  “The worshippers were in the Sunday service around 9:30 am when they heard gunshots very close to the Church. The gunmen attacked the Church and went away with 40 worshippers,” he explained.  “Along the way, somehow 15 of the kidnapped persons returned remaining the rest 25 who are presently in captivity without any word from their abductors.” Hayab said that efforts are being made to get in contact with the abductors concerning the remaining people and prayed that the abductors would be merciful to release the remaining 25 back to their families. EFCC Investigator Testifies Against Man In Alleged N5m Scam

Ikeja, – An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigator, Ademola Agbetuyi, on Monday testified against one Onarike Onagoruwa, accused of defrauding a woman of N5 million on the pretext of supplying her coconut oil. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Agbetuyi is facing a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and issuance of dud cheque before an Ikeja Special Offences Court. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Agbetuyi, who was led in evidence by the EFCC counsel, Mr Nwandu Ukoha, told the court how the witness ignored several letters of invitation sent to him, which necessitated his arrest. The witness said EFCC received a petition on Jan. 27, 2020 and that the defendant allegedly defrauded his victim using a purported coconut oil-based investment scheme.
