By Ogechi Okorie The Federal Government on Monday said it is not in support of the National Assembly bill proposing to deny Nigeria-trained medical or dental practitioners from being granted full licences until they have worked for a minimum of five years in the country. Precise Post recalls that on April 7, the bill scaled through the second reading in the House of Representatives. According to the sponsor, Honourable Ganiyu Johnson (APC/Lagos), the piece of legislation is to address the brain drain in the Nigerian health sector. Alleged N6bn Money Laundering: Court Fixes July 23 For Mompha’s Trial

By Chris Udochukwu The Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos has fixed July 23 for the trial of social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha in the alleged N6 billion money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice Mojisola Dada fixed the new date for trial following information made available to the court that Mompha had been arrested. Ismaila Mustapha is facing an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy to launder funds obtained through unlawful activity, retention of proceeds of criminal conduct, laundering of funds obtained through unlawful activity, failure to disclose assets and property, possession of documents containing false pretence and use of property derived from an unlawful act. At the proceedings on Monday, the EFCC’s prosecuting counsel, Sulaiman Sulaiman told the court that the agency’s international partners had succeeded in arresting Mompha. Ado- Ekiti, – An Ado-Ekiti State High Court in Ekiti State has sentenced three persons to death by hanging for conspiracy and armed robbery. The defendants, Deji Omotayo, 23, Ifeanyin Chidiebere, 25 and Bolaji Usman, 28, were arraingned on Jan. 21, 2020, on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery. Delivering his judgment, Justice Bamidele Omotoso said that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt the charge preferred against the defendants. “I am of the strong opinion that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt the offence of armed robbery against the defendants. “They are hereby found guilty as charged and convicted for the offence of armed robbery. ‘’ The sentence of the court upon you Omotayo Deji, Chidiebere Ifeanyin, and Bolaji Usman is that you be hanged by the neck until you are dead and may the Lord have mercy on your souls,” Omotosho said. Katsina Govt., UNICEF Begin Polio Immunisation, Target 2.9m Children  

Katsina, – Katsine State Government, in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), on Monday, began routine polio immunisation in the state. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 2.9 million children are targeted for the exercise, expected to hold for a week. Executive Secretary of the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Shamsuddeen Yahaya, stated this while flagging off the immunisation on Monday in Katsina. Yahaya said that the first phase of the exercise would cover 13 out of the 34 local government areas (LGAs) in the state. He said that the immunisation was against polio virus and other vaccine-preventable diseases in the state, adding that the target beneficiaries were children between the ages of zero and 59 months. EFCC re-arrests Mompha on alleged N6bn money laundering

Ikeja, – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday said the social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha (alias Mompha), charged with N6 billion money laundering had been re-arrested. The EFCC counsel, Mr Suleiman Suleiman, told an Ikeja Special Offences Court that the prosecution in collaboration with its international partners had secured the arrest of Mompha. “The prosecution will like to bring to the knowledge of my lord that in collaboration with our international partners, we have been able to apprehend the defendant. “We plan to take him into custody and to produce him before the court. “The counsel for the defendant reached out to me seeking for an adjournment that he will be absent today in court,” Suleiman said. Katsina, – The Katsina State Police Command has said that its operatives have killed a suspected terrorist and rescued five kidnapped women in Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state. The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Gambo Isah, made the disclosure in a statement issued to newsmen in Katsina on Monday.
