Tourist-In-Chief Comment: Presidency Tackles Atiku, Says Tinubu On Top Of Domestic Situation

By Ogechi Okorie The Presidency has tackled the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar for labelling President BolaTinubu “Tourist-in-Chief,” saying contrary to Atiku’s hallucination, President Tinubu is on top of domestic situation in Nigeria. The Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, described Atiku’s comment as reckless. Precise Post recalls that Atiku had said that Tinubu is playing fiddle while Nigeria is drowning in the ocean of insecurity. To imagine that the Commander-in-Chief is on a so-called private visit while kidnappers kill a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay N90million ransom and two monarchs in Ekiti, among other regular tragedies besetting Nigerians. Adding that, if the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside. Nigeria does not need another Tourist-in-Chief. The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy. -AA However, the statement from the presidency reads in full: Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s statement accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of fiddling amidst some security and economic challenges is to say …

AFCON’23: Angola boss Goncalves targets final spot

Angola head coach Pedro Goncalves is targeting a place in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The Palancas Negras will be up against three-time winners Nigeria in a quarter-final tie at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, on Friday. Goncalves’ side have enjoyed a near perfect campaign in Cote d’Ivoire, winning three and drawing one of their four games. The game against the Super Eagles will be their biggest test after their opener against Algeria which ended in a 1-1 draw. The Portuguese is, however, looking beyond that and has his sight set on the ultimate prize. “Whoever reaches the quarter-finals has to aim to go as far as possible, and the furthest possible is to reach the final and propose themselves as a candidate for victory,” he stated. Angola have never won the AFCON title. They have made it to the quarter-finals twice in the past (2008 and 2010).

The development comes amid alleged infiltration and inferences from Western powers, especially the United States of America, USA, and Russia, with a huge presence of Wagner Brothers fighters in the region. Newsmen reported that Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso on Sunday announced that they were withdrawing from ECOWAS due to what they called illegal and inhumane sanctions imposed on them following the coups in their countries. The three countries also notified ECOWAS, the African Union, A.U., and the United Nations of their withdrawal from the regional economic bloc, citing concerns about ECOWAS’s divergence from its founding principles and influence from foreign powers. Before now, the three countries were suspended from ECOWAS, with Niger and Mali facing heavy sanctions following the military take-over of power that took place in Mali (2020 and 2021) Burkina Faso (2022) and Niger (2023). Military leaders of the three nations disclosed in a …
