The Niger Delta Stakeholders Forum, NDSF, has called for the probe of former Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola (rtd) for allegedly aiding oil thieves during his years in service. By Ogechi Okorie KADUNA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the former speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman as the winner of Saturday’s bye-election for the Makera state constituency. Liman, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored a total of 18, 068 votes to defeat his closest rival, Solomon Katuka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 17, 404 votes to come second. Usman Yakuti of the Labour Party got 3,709 votes to finish third. According to INEC, the election was conducted in five polling units in the Makera constituency – Kakuri Hausa, Television, Kakuri Gwari, Barnwa 1 and Barnwa 2 to determine the winner. Jamilu Dahiru secured victory in the Bauchi Central Constituency rerun election with a total of 45,240 votes, defeating his closest opponent Aliyu Abdullahi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 41,266 votes. Abubakar Suleiman was officially declared the winner of the Ningi Central Constituency rerun election by INEC, obtaining a total of 11,785 votes and surpassing his major contender Khalid Ningi of the All Progressives Congress, who received 10,339 votes. By Chris Udochukwu ABUJA – The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to investigate the “allegations that $3.4 billion loan obtained from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is missing, diverted or unaccounted for.” The Group which made the call in a statement on Sunday specifically wants the President to direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to promptly probe the allegations. SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, said the request followed the 2020 annual audited report published last week by the Auditor-General of the Federation documents damning revelations including that there was no document to show the movement and spending of the IMF loan. “Anyone suspected to be responsible should face prosecution as appropriate, if there is sufficient admissible evidence, and any missing IMF loan should be fully recovered and returned to the public treasury,” Oluwadare said. NDLEA which announced the seizure in a statement on Sunday, February 4, said the Ghanaian Loud was smuggled into Lagos from Ghana loaded in two trucks and a J5 bus with a total weight of 14, 524.8 kilograms. He stated that Ani having secured the highest number of votes in the just concluded bye elections, is declared winner and returned as Senator-elect.
