By Ogechi Okorie Port Harcourt – Rivers state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Isaac Kamalu, resigned from his appointment on Wednesday. He is the second commissioner to resign from the cabinet on Wednesday after Governor Siminialaye Fubara, announced a slight cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday. The first to resign was Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. In the cabinet reshuffle, the governor redeployed Kamalu to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment while Adangor was redeployed to the Ministry of Special Duties. Kamalu and Adangor are believed to be loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers who had been having a face-off with his successor, Governor Fubara. Kamalu was the Commissioner for Finance in Wike’s cabinet, while Adangor was the former governor’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. Kaduna Authority takes action, seals UBA branches over unpaid tax sum of N14.3m

The Kaduna Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) said it has sealed branches of United Bank for Africa, UBA in the state metropolis over alleged refusal of the bank to pay N14.3 million tax. Hajiya Aysha Ahmad, the KADIRS Board Secretary/Legal Adviser told journalists that the enforcement was to ensure tax compliance in the whole state regarding withholding taxes and money agents. She said the branches of the UBA were sealed after the bank failed to respond to demand notices for the tax obligation. “We sent so many demand notices to them. We have asked them to pay the money but they refused, we are left with no other option but to enforce,” she said. Ahmad added that the service wants voluntary compliance of tax payment while lamenting that the defaulter had been recalcitrant. She, however, said when the defaulters pay, the service would unseal the premises. The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, has removed 15 traditional rulers from their positions following the recommendation of a committee he constituted to investigate various allegations leveled against them. The traditional rulers were sacked after the committee found them culpable for the various offences they were investigated for. The Press Secretary to Sokoto State Governor, Malam Abubakar Bawa, told newsmen that the relieved traditional rulers were sacked for offences such as insubordination, aiding the activities of banditry, land racketeering and converting public property for private use. Those affected include the district heads of Ungwan Lalle, Yabo, Giyawa, Dogon Daji, Wamakko, Tulluwa, Illela, Kebbe and Alkammu.
