By Chris Udochukwu President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday commissioned NASENI Compressed Natural Gas(CNG) Reverse Engineering Training, Filling and Conversion Centre in Abuja. NASENI refers to National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure. The agency was established in 1992 by the Federal Government to conduct developmental work in the area of manufacturing. President Tinubu was represented at the event by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio. In his address, President Tinubu said: “Our administration’s Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas Initiative(PiCNG) is a flagship program by which we are actively supporting a private-sector-led rollout of critical gas infrastructure to drive innovation and industrialization in Nigeria. “It is also a major contribution to our vision of fully harnessing Nigeria’s immense gas resources, as a transition fuel on the journey to net-zero, as envisaged by our Energy Transition Plan(ETP). “Let me say that we are equally focused on the full range of energy options for powering Nigerian transport sector. Disregard false information on 15th Emir leading Friday prayers– Police

  KANO- The Kano State Police Command has urged residents to ignore false information circulating on social media that Alhaji Aminu Bayero, the 15th Emir would lead  the Friday prayers at the Central Mosque. The Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview on Friday, that Bayero will observe his Friday prayers  in the mosque within the Nasarawa Palace, where he currently resides. Many trapped as two-storey building collapse in Lagos Island

A two-storey building has collapsed in the Isale Eko area of Lagos State, causing fear and alarm among residents.Many people are reportedly trapped in the structure alleged to have been defective. The integrity of the building is said to have been compromised following a fire in parts of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island. The Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye who confirmed the incident, said 14 other buildings were seriously impacted by the fire. In April, four buildings collapsed due to the intensity of the fire that engulfed part of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island. He said emergency responders at the scene of the event included NEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigeria Police and fire service of the Nigeria Ports Authority.

Travellers Describe Removal from Plane Due to ‘Body Odour’ Complaints

Three black men have filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against American Airlines, with claims that they were removed from a flight after a complaint from an unidentified passenger about body odour. The men, Alvin Jackson, Emmanuel Jean Joseph, and Xavier Veal, alleged that they later realised it wasn’t about body odour but racial discrimination as all the blacks on the flight were removed. The men, who were not seated together and did not know each other, say that every black man was removed from the 5 January flight from Phoenix, Arizona, to New York, BBC reports. The reports added that each of the men had flown from Los Angeles earlier that day, with no issue. Police net over 29,000 suspects in crackdown on crime

The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, says no fewer than 29,000 suspects were arrested for offences ranging from kidnapping, rape, murder, gun-running, and cultism among others across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in one year. Adejobi disclosed this in a signed statement obtained on Thursday. The force spokesperson noted that the arrests were part of efforts of the police to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians. Giving a breakdown of the arrest, Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, noted that 4,826 suspects were arrested for armed robbery, 3,078 suspects for kidnapping and 2,479 suspects were arrested for sexual offences. He added that 1,243 suspects were nabbed for unlawful possession of firearms, 3,523 suspects were arrested for cultism, 3,381 suspects for murder/homicide, and 13,402 suspects were arrested for other offences. Popular singer Teniola Apata, simply known as Teni, has reacted to the change of Nigeria’s national anthem. On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law to reinstate the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.” Reacting, Teni said she would miss the replaced National Anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots.” She noted that she made so many childhood memories with the former anthem. On her X handle, Teni wrote: “Arise o compatriots, I’ll miss you, thank you for so many childhood memories. tillwe meet again, love SM.” ‘Arise, O compatriots’ was adopted as Nigeria’s National Anthem in 1978. The lyrics were composed by John A. Ilechukwu, Eme Etim Akpan, B. A. Ogunnaike, Sota Omoigui and P. O. Aderibigbe. The anthem was performed by the Nigeria Police Band under the directorship of B. E. Odiasse. Two out of the three children of the same parents, who were abducted by a motorcyclist in Amaba Ime, Ikwuano LGA of Abia State, have been rescued and brought back to their parents. They were rescued in Ekwulobia and Nkpor, two different towns in Anambra State, by security operatives.
