The authority of the Nigerian Army, on Monday, said its troops deployed for counter-terrorism operations in the North Central in conjunction with Volunteer Guards, have successfully repelled a kidnap attempt and rescued two kidnap victims in Benue State. The army in a post on its Facebook page, said the troops, while responding to a distress call from the enclave of the suspected kidnap gang in Tsede Village, along Road Tor Donga Takum in Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, troops quickly mobilised to the location where they engaged the kidnappers in a shootout, forcing them to retreat in disarray, abandoning their captives. Bandits killed six persons when the assailants attacked the Ambe community of Sanga Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Sunday night. The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command Mansir Hassan confirmed the incident to Channels Television, saying that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted 511 jumbo sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 4,752kg concealed in the gas tank compartment of a truck along the Abuja-Abaji highway. The agency in a statement on Sunday by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the operatives on a stop-and-search operation along the highway on Wednesday, May 1, intercepted the 40-ft gas tanker marked RBC 77XG and upon a thorough search discovered the sacks. Babafemi added that four suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure. Wike and 36 Governors Face Lawsuit Over Alleged N5.9tn, $4.6bn Loans

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike before the Federal High Court in Abuja. Also joined in the suit were the 36 state governors over their failure to account for, and publish the agreements of the N5.9 trillion and $4.6 billion loans obtained by their states and the FCT, respectively. Disclosing this in a statement on Sunday, SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, said the group asked the court to “direct and compel the governors and Mr. Wike to account for N5.9trn and $4.6bn loans obtained by their states and the FCT and to publish copies of the loan agreements, location of projects executed with the loans.” According to the statement, the suit, numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/592/2024 was filed on Friday on behalf of SERAP by its lawyers – Kolawole Oluwadare, Kehinde Oyewumi and Valentina Adegoke in the nation’s capital. The Mundubawa country home of former governor Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has been gutted by Fire, destroying the sitting room of his second Wife, Halima Shekarau. KANO (SUNDIATA POST)- The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, says 30 per cent of its convicted inmates have been empowered with various vocational skills to cater for the needs of their families. SC Musbahu Lawan, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kano. Lawan said the inmates were transformed not only to become law-abiding citizens, but also to earn a living through the skills and vocation they learned while in custody. According to him, the inmates are being trained on different skills acquisition such as local and traditional hand fans, tailoring, beat making, weaving, carpentry and barbing among others. YOLA (SUNDIATA POST)- The Adamawa Government has extended the resumption of primary and secondary schools for third term academic session to May 13, to enable the government vaccinate children against measles. Umar explained that the pupils and students were earlier scheduled to resume today, May 6, but the resumption was extended to May 13 to contain the outbreak of measles in parts of the state.
