ABUJA- Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs, has warned women not to sell or transfer ownership of the 37,000 free Point of Sale (POS) machines that would be distributed nationwide. Kennedy-Ohanenye, gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja during the first phase of the free 1,000 Units of POS distribution among some women in the FCT. The minister said the initiative was in collaboration with PLUG Platform Group, an organisation that promotes financial inclusion. According to her, the POS will ensure ease of doing business and boost the economic status of women in Nigeria. “If you know that you are not going to operate this POS by yourself don’t take it. “Some of you might be thinking that it is something that they will sell, I will come after you if you sell it. “Before you are handed over this POS, you must have been registered in the system and we will be tracking you. At least 18 travellers were killed in a crash on the Umuahia-Enugu axis of the Port Harcourt Enugu Highway on Thursday morning. It was gathered that the accident occurred at a police checkpoint around the Lokpanta area of Abia State in the wee hours of Thursday. It was also learned that an 18-seater commercial bus was at the checkpoint awaiting police clearance when a truck driver lost control and rammed into them killing the driver and all the passengers. According to The Nation, an eyewitness, Bananas Okereke, told our reporter on the telephone that the bodies of victims still littered the scene at 8:20 am. He said: “The road is blocked by protesting bus drivers and other motorists who are asking that the policemen who caused the accident be brought back to the scene. “Colleagues of the bus driver and other road users have taken over the road, demanding Justice for the victims. Man bags 1 year imprisonment, 100 hours community service for cyber crime

LAGOS- Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of a Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday convicted and sentenced a man,  Tunmise Aluko to a one year imprisonment over cybercrime. The court, however, gave the defendant an option of N300, 000 fine, as well as 100 hours of community service. The convict was charged with false statement and impersonation. He pleaded guilty to the charge. Following his plea, the prosecutor, Mrs Chineye Okezie, reviewed the facts of the case, and tendered evidences which were admitted by the court. She then urged the court to proceed and convict the defendant based on his plea and the evidences adduced. In his verdict, Justice Aneke found the defendant guilty of the offence and consequently convicted him. After listening to a plea for mercy on behalf of the convict, the court sentenced him to one year imprisonment, with an option of N300, 000 fine. 47 suspected Boko Haram, ISWAP Terrorists surrender to MNJTF

MAIDUGURI- No fewer than 47 individuals associated with Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP),  have surrendered to troops of 403 Amphibious Brigade of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF)  Sector 3, Nigeria. Lt.-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer, N`djamena, Chad, stated this in a statement on Thursday in Maiduguri. Abdullahi said that the group included seven men, nine women and 31 children. He  said that the terrorists’ families returned to Kwatan Turare and Doron Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno  Nigeria, after spending several years with the terrorists. Magistrate orders man to sweep court premises for 3 weeks for theft

KADUNA- A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday ordered a 30-year-old man, Garba Aliyu, to sweep the court premises for three weeks  for stealing women’s purse. Aliyu was convicted and sentenced after he pleaded guilty to theft.. The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, said the convict’s plea had saved the court the pains of a prolonged prosecution, adding that the punishment would have been more severe if he had not pleaded guilty.
