By Sylvanus Viashima JALINGO – Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya is set to address Journalists from Plateau, Taraba, Bauchi and Gombe States at a workshop organised by a capacity building Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) FontFoot Media Initiative on Audit Reporting. Chido Nwakanma, the training coordinator disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday. Nwakanma said that the programme, which is the fifth Edition draws journalists from the Four states to show the organisation’s level of inclusiveness. “Frontfoot Media Initiative holds the training on Audit Reporting under the auspices of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism and the sponsorship of the MacArthur Foundation. “The Gombe programme will feature participants not only from Gombe but also from the neighbouring states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Plateau, and Taraba, a testament to the inclusivity and reach of Front Foot’s training initiatives. We look forward to training about 40 media personnel, each of whom plays a crucial role in our media landscape. EU Commission gives Microsoft 10 days to hand over AI documents

BRUSSELS- The European Commission on Friday gave Microsoft a Legally binding deadline of May 27 to supply documents concerning the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in its Bing search engine. The order concerns two features: “Copilot in Bing,” a multipurpose system that can create text and images based on prompts from the user, and “Image Creator by Designer,” an image generator. The commission says it suspects AI-generated false information known as “hallucinations” from these systems, as well as AI-generated “deepfakes” and voter manipulation, may violate the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA). The DSA is a broad online content law that among other things requires very large platforms like Microsoft to manage a wide array of different risks related to their services. While, generative AI systems allow users to create content using plain-language prompts. Gunmen kidnap Anambra Catholic priest, Rev Fr Basil Gbuzuo

A popular Catholic priest in the Onitsha Diocese of Anambra State, Reverend Father Basil Gbuzuo, has been kidnapped by yet-to-be identified gunmen. The news of the priest’s abduction was contained in a release by the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha dated May 16, 2024. According to the statement, the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, around 8 am along the Eke Nkpor-Obosi bypass. The statement also added that His Grace, Most Rev Valerian Okeke, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, had called on all Christ’s faithful and people of goodwill to pray for the quick and safe release of the priest. Kidnapping: Police apprehends Camerounian, two Nigerians in Delta

A stint operation carried out by detectives from Force Headquarters, Abuja, and Operatives of Delta State Police Command has led to the arrest of a Camerounian and two Nigerians over kidnapping. The three-man gang was known for kidnapping unsuspecting residents in Orerokpe, Sapele and Warri axes of Delta State. One suspect is Kaduna-based, while the others are from Kogi and Cameroun, respectively. Intelligence gathered on some kidnapping incidents carried out in the Warri axis pointed accusing fingers at Yakubu Ya’u, 20, a Kaduna resident who often visited Oha and Ughwagba communities in Okpe Local Government Area of the state to kidnap unsuspecting victims for ransom. Led by the DPO of Orerokpe Division, DSP Paul Oboware, the detectives trailed the suspect to his hideout in Warri, where he was arrested. Twenty-one federation states will roll out Phase II of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination exercise, starting 27th May 2024. This was revealed in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), held on Wednesday in Abuja. According to the communiqué signed by the Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum had received a briefing on the commencement of the exercise from its Senior Health Advisor, Dr Ahmad Abdulwahab on progress in the state involved, with expanding health insurance coverage and their performance on nutrition, as well as the Primary Healthcare (PHC) Leadership Challenge during the meeting. In October 2023, the Nigerian government initiated the integration of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine into the national health system, to immunise 7.7 million adolescent girls ages 9–14. The launch which is spearheaded by the Nigeria Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), will accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem in Nigeria.
