FAAC: FG, States, LG Councils Share N1.143trn Revenue in May 2024

By Okey Josiah ABUJA – The Federal Government, States and Local Government Councils in the country have shared a total sum of N1,143.210 billion in May 2024 Federation Accounts Revenue. The revenue was shared at the June 2024 meeting of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, the statement signed by the Director (Press and Public Relations), Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa said. A communiqué issued by the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) revealed that the N1,143.210 billion total distributable revenue comprised distributable statutory revenue of N 157.183 billion, distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue of N463.425 billion, Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) revenue of N15.146 billion and Exchange Difference revenue of N507.456 billion. Total revenue of N2,324.792 billion was available in the month of May 2024. Total deduction for cost of collection was N76.647 billion while total transfers, interventions and refunds was N1,104.935 billion. Tinubu Appoints Rtd DIG Hashimu Argungu as Chairman of Police Service Commission

By Okey Josiah ABUJA – President Tinubu has nominated retired DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).  President Tinubu also nominated Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd) as Member. The Special Adviser Information and strategy to President Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga who disclosed this on his X account on Monday night, said the nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate. Other members of the Police Service Commission will be nominated in due course. President Tinubu also appointed Mr. Mohammed Sheidu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) with immediate effect. Argungu is presently serving as chairman of NPF Micro-finance Bank, He will be 67 on 10 July. He served in the police from 1984 till 2016 when he retired. Fraud: EFCC Presents First Witness In Sirika’s Trial

A former Director of Procurement at the Federal Ministry of Aviation, Azubuike Okorie, has told a Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, that a N1.4 billion Apron Extension Contract at Katsina Airport was not executed despite the payment of mobilisation fee to the contractor.  He testified as a subpoenaed witness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday in a case involving former Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika, his daughter, son-in-law, and Al-Buraq Investment Ltd, regarding the alleged N1.4 billion Apron Extension Contract at Katsina Airport. Okorie added that the contract remained unexecuted when he left civil service in May 2023. He also told the court that 30 percent mobilisation fee paid was paid to the disputed company, but he couldn’t confirm full payment. The counsel for the defendant, requested an adjournment for cross-examination to study the EFCC’s evidence. The EFCC accused Sirika of contract fraud, alleging favoritism towards companies linked to his family in awarding contracts for the Nigerian Air project and Katsina Airport Apron Extension. Justice Sylvanus Oriji, adjourned the case to June 11, 2024.

Gov Fintiri reshuffles cabinet, moves 4 commissioners

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has announced a minor cabinet reshuffle. The exercise involves four commissioners in what Fintiri describes as an effort to optimize his administration’s performance. The reshuffle translates into Mrs Neido Geoffrey Kufulto who was Commissioner for Information, now taking on the role of Commissioner for Women Affairs. According to a statement released Monday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, Mrs Wunfe Anthony moves from the Ministry of Women Affairs to the Ministry of Transportation. Mr James Iliya, previously Commissioner for Entrepreneurship, takes over as Commissioner for Information while Hamajumba Gatugel, formerly of the Ministry of Transport is now in charge as Commissioner in the Ministry of Entrepreneurship. Prostitution in Ghana: Alleged kingpin arrested, teenage girls rescued

The Nigerian Commission in Ghana says it has rescued 11 teenage girls trafficked into the country for prostitution, saying they have been taken into custody. The Commission also confirmed the arrest of the suspect, Chukwudi Nwachukwu, who lured the girls to Ghana under the pretence of working at a restaurant. This is contained in a memo signed by the Acting High Commissioner, Nigeria High Commission, Accra, Ghana, lfedayo Moses Adeoye. On Sunday, bandits launched an attack on Kuchini in the Ihuru community of Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State, resulting in the death of a man named Isiyaku. According to local sources, Isiyaku was killed while working on his farm in Kuchini. In a related incident, two other individuals were kidnapped in Guyi Kushaku village, Galadima ward, also within Shiroro Local Government Area. Japan Govt. inspects Honda headquarters over vehicle test fraud

TOKYO- Japan’s transport ministry has inspected  Honda Motor Co.’s headquarters in Tokyo after the company and other automakers admitted to carrying out improper tests for vehicle certifications required for mass production. According to local media reports, after the inspections, the Ministry will decide whether to impose administrative punishments to prevent a recurrence. It would also determine if recalls are required by examining whether the affected vehicles meet its safety and environmental performance standards, the report said. Honda said vehicle tests for 22 models were improperly conducted, including the reporting of falsified data. None of its current models are affected, according to the report. Honda became the fourth company to be inspected under the road transport vehicle law following Toyota Motor Corp., Yamaha Motor Co. and Suzuki Motor Corp., a week after five automakers unveiled safety tests were not conducted in line with government specifications. A total of 38 models manufactured by the five automakers are affected. Iraqi court sentences 7 drug dealers to death

BAGHDAD- An Iraqi court has issued death sentences to seven drug dealers, including a foreigner. “The Central Criminal Court issued a verdict to execute seven drug dealers, including a foreigner, who were convicted of trafficking narcotic substances,” the Supreme Judicial Council said in a statement, without specifying the nationality of the foreigner. The council noted that the convicts were sentenced to death for importing and exporting narcotic substances from neighboring countries. The chaos and conflicts that have engulfed Iraq since the U.S. invasion in 2003 impeded Iraqi governments from effectively addressing the threat of drugs.
