No Tariff Increase Has Been Approved ― NERC

Abuja (Precise Post) – No tariff increase has been approved, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) at the weekend, said. It was reacting to a publication in several electronic and print media that end-user electricity tariffs have been increased following the approval of the minor review (2016 – 2018) of the 2015 Multi-Year Tariff Order on August 21, 2019. The commission in a statement signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Usman Arabi, a copy of which was made available to Nigerian Tribune, Abuja explained that the minor review implemented by the Commission was an adjustment of the tariff regime released in 2015 to account for changes in macroeconomic indices for the years 2016, 2017 and 2018. It said this was intended to provide certainty about revenue shortfall that may have arisen due to the difference between tariffs approved by the regulator and actual end-user tariffs. “The Commission, therefore, wishes to notify the general public that no tariff increase has been approved by the Commission vide the Order,” the statement reads. However, it stressed that it will continue to observe …

APC Denies Giving Billionaire Kidnapper Wadume N13m For Buhari’s Election

Abuja (Precise Post)  –  The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed claim by the rearrested kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Wadume, that the ruling party gave him N13 million for the 2019 presidential election in which it’s candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, was re-elected. The APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in his reaction to the trending story yesterday, challenged the kidnap kingpin to name the person who gave him the said money.  “It is expected that the alleged kidnapper, having come face to face with justice, would throw whatever he could lay his hands on into the fray. “In any case, our party did not have budget for thugs. Unlike the period when the ruling party dipped hands into the public treasury to fund political campaigns and elections, APC had to rely on its own resources. “Even if we had all the money, we would never allocate money for kidnappers and murderers. That era ended with PDP. “Perhaps, he can name whoever gave him money. Definitely, it was not APC. From his purported confession, he claimed to be a PDP …

Buhari Using Security Agencies To Silence Nigerians – Wole Soyinka

Abuja (Precise Post) – Prof. Wole Soyinka is of the opinion that the Buhari-led administration is using security agencies to silence Nigerians. The Nobel Laureate made this known at the unveiling of an art gallery in commemoration of his 85th birthday. “It is important to send strong message to this government and to the security services to stop trying to muzzle people when they come together to exchange ideas. “You’re reducing them as human beings and you’re also reducing yourselves as a human being because it means you’re afraid to listen. “Be very, very careful what you believe even when you read such materials in social media or sometimes in newspapers because, in this country, we have a most fertile multiplier effect. “When somebody hears something, he puts it on the Internet, it spreads and industry begins as people start commenting on things which never existed. “Sometimes on social media, you’ll even see trending quotes supposedly from me, with my name, my photograph, with statements which represents what those people want to say but lacked the courage to say it” …

Looming Anarchy: Time to Visit State Police Bill

By Uche Anichukwu Only last April, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, revealed that criminals killed a total of 1,071 persons in the first quarter of 2019. Northern states alone, recorded 767 of the killings, with North West witnessing 436 killings. Also, 685 persons were kidnapped nationwide. Zamfara alone recorded 281 cases. Although many argue that the IGP’s figures were conservative, as it only covered reported/recorded cases, truth is that even by that scary statistics and wanton killings in the past one decade alone, we would have since been wiped out, were Nigeria like some thinly populated African nations such as Seychelles (95,702), Sao Tome and Principe (213, 379), etc. In the face of bloodletting and economic savagery, one would expect our leaders to be stirred to holy anger. I mean the kind of anger shown by former President George W. Bush after the 9/11 attacks. He vowed before a joint session of the US Congress that  “Whether we bring our enemies to justice or bring justice to our enemies, justice will be done”. And Bush and successive American Presidents …

Court Orders Renewal of Shell’s Ogoni Oil Field License for 20 Years

By Alex Enumah  Abuja (Precise Post) – Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, yesterday, ordered the renewal for another 20 years of the operating license of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in the OML11 field which is in the Ogoni area.  Justice Taiwo gave the order while delivering judgment in a suit challenging the refusal of the federal government to renew Shell’s License in the said OML 11 oil field.  The federal government had refused to renew the operating license of the oil giant in the affected oil field on the grounds that the renewal is in the interest of the country particularly in the area of national security.  The FG further argued that renewing the said license for another 30 years was against the spirit and letter of the Petroleum Act, which allows renewal for a maximum period of 20 years.  The refusal prompted the oil company to approach the court to compel the federal government to renew its oil mining license for the affected oil field, which the company disclosed was renewed for a …
