Sylvester Oromoni: Detained Dowen College Students Granted Bail

A Magistrate court has granted bail to five students of Dowen College, charged with the murder of 12-year-old, Sylvester Oromoni. The students were granted bail to the sum of one million each by the Yaba Chief Magistrates Court. The Lagos State Police Command had charged the students with conspiracy and homicide. The presiding magistrate, Olatunbosun Adeola, after hearing the bail application from the defendants’ counsel, ordered the defendants to produce two sureties each in like sum. According to Adeola, one of each of the defendants’ sureties must be their parent and must swear an affidavit of compliance. She further stated that the international passports of all the affected students must be submitted to the court, their residence must be verified by the prosecutor and they must stay within 2km of their residence at all times. Defence counsel, Miss Ifeoma Eson, Mr A.E. Amah, Mr Godwin Omoaka (SAN), Mr Eze Ajibo represented Begue and Mr Micheal Ayinla were in court for the minors. EFCC arrests 15 suspected internet fraudsters in Abia

The Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said its operatives have arrested 15 suspected internet fraudsters. The commission said the suspects were arrested during a sting operation on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at different locations in Aba, Abia State. The Head, Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The Federal High Court has faulted reports one of its judges handling the case involving the detained 12 associates of the Yoruba nation’s advocate, Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), Justice Obiora Egwuatu has avoided signing their release warrant. Some media reports had indicated that the judge, who earlier granted the detainees bail, has suddenly become unavailable to sign their release warrant after the detainees met the bail conditions. DSS fails to produce detained Igboho’s associates in court

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the suit brought by 12 detained associates of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho. The court, on Thursday, took the decision to adjourn till Monday because the Department of State Services failed to produce the detained aides as earlier ordered by the court. Justice Obiora Egwuatu also ordered that the DSS should grant the lawyer to the detained aides access to his clients. The counsel to the DSS, I. Awo, informed the court that the DSS has no intention of disobeying the court’s order. However, he stated that there were facts that were necessary for the court to be aware of regarding the matter. Awo said some of the names on the court order were different from the names of the persons they had arrested on July 1, 2021 at Igboho’s house. Abuja (Precise Post) – A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail at N200million for a former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Adedibu Ojerinde, who is charged with alleged diversion of about N5.2billion public funds. Justice Obiora Egwuatu admitted Ojerinde to bail in a ruling he delivered after listening to arguments from lawyers to the defence and prosecution. Justice Egwuatu noted that bail is at the discretion of the court, adding that there is no evidence before him why the defendant should not be admitted to bail. He ordered the defendant to produce two sureties in like sum, whom must be residents of Abuja and show evidence of tax payment. A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that a former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Adedibu Ojerinde be remanded in prison custody. Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in a ruling on Tuesday, ordered that Ojerinde be kept in a correctional facility pending the hearing of his bail application, scheduled for July 8. Justice Egwuatu gave the ruling after Ojerinde, dressed in white native attire, was arraigned on an 18-count charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/97/2021, in which he was accused, among others, of complicity in the diversion of public funds estimated at over N5.2billion. The prosecuting agency – the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission(ICPC) – said Ojerinde committed the alleged offences, contained in the charge, from 2003 when he served as the Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO) till 2021. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has called on the Federal Government to expose all the over 400 Bureau De Change operators recently arrested for allegedly funding the activities of Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
