By Chris Udochukwu Members of the Nigerian Council of State have asked the the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele to make new naira notes available or recirculate old naira notes to ease the suffering of Nigerians. This is also as the Council expressed support for the naira redesign policy of the CBN. The meeting which held on Friday at the presidential villa, was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari. In attendance are the former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan; Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar as well as ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo who attended virtually. Also present at the chamber is the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila. Governors in attendance are Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Babagana Zulum (Borno). Abuja (Sundiata Post) – President Muhammmadu Buhari on Friday chaired the National Council of State meeting to address the current upheaval regarding the naira redesign and the currency swap. In attendance are the former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan; Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar as well as ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo who attended virtually. Disclosing this when he took to his twitter handle account, Femi Fani-Kayode said “Obasanjo countered by telling him that the protests were peaceful until sponsored and violent thugs and hoodlums turned on the protesters and started attacking them”. Although the Council has no executive power but its advisory role is important. The National Economic Council and the Council of State are the two bodies created by the Constitution to advise the President on specific matters.
