Kuje prison jailbreak: 2 fleeing inmates arrested in Adamawa

Two fleeing inmates of the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, have been arrested in Adamawa State. The Adamawa State Police Command said on Monday that it arrested the two inmates who were among those who fled the Kuje facility following a jailbreak last year. The command’s public relations officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, identified the two fugitives as Atiku Ibrahim, 37, and Adamu Ibrahim, 40. It was recalled that no less than 879 inmates escaped during the July 5, 2022, jailbreak. Hundreds of the fleeing inmates have either returned on their own or were recaptured over the months since the jailbreak. The Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, claimed responsibility for the attack. It was later said that 64 of those who escaped were high-profile members of the sect held at the facility.

A cheque of N2.8 million has been given to the family of late Inspector of Corps (IC) Ilyasu Abraham. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) presented the money to the family of the late officer who died in the attack on Kuje Medium Custodial Centre. Presenting a cheque of N2.5 million and the sum of N300,000 in cash to Mrs. Elizabeth Abraham and daughter, Abimiku Blessing at the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, August 4, the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi consoled the family over the loss of their bread winner and encouraged them that the officer would be remembered as a hero, who died in active service.  He explained that the money given to the family was in fulfilment of his promise to ensure that necessary compensation is given to the family in due time, stressing that, it is an intervention from government and the Corps to assist the deceased family in ameliorating some burial expenses. Prison Break: 421 fleeing Kuje Inmates Recaptured, 454 At Large

The Nigerian Correctional Service has recaptured 421 inmates who fled the its facility in Kuje Abuja, while 454 others are still at large, according to the House of Representatives’ Committee on Correctional Service. This is just as the committee said it had summoned the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; and Comptroller-General of the NCoS, Haliru Nababa, to appear before it over the recent attack on the Kuje Custodial Centre. The committee also invited the Commander of the Nigerian Army Platoon on duty on the night of the attack. Chairman of the committee on Correctional Service, Edwin Anayo, who disclosed this during an oversight visit to the facility on Thursday, said the lawmakers met 115 inmates. “If you subtract it, it will give about 879 that escaped that night,” he noted. Kuje jailbreak: Osinachi’s Husband, Wadume Still In Custody – NCoS Reveals

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has dismissed reports that Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi, is missing. The NCoS also confirmed that the suspected kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala (a.k.a. Wadume), is in custody. The service said it was untrue that both men escaped during the July 5 jailbreak at Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abuja. Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, Chukwuedo Humphrey spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday. The spokesman said the clarification became necessary in view of information circulating. “The story is false, reckless and mischievous. They are still in custody. Kuje Prison Invasion: ISWAP Claims Responsibility, Releases Video Of ‘Soldiers Of Caliphate’ In Action

The Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, known as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack on Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, the nation’s capital. Precise Post on Tuesday reported that the facility was under attack by gunmen. According to one of the sources, the terrorists invaded the facility around 9:05 pm and operated till 1:30 am on Wednesday morning. He added that over 800 inmates including terrorists escaped during the attack by gunmen. ISWAP in a video released on Wednesday claimed responsibility for the attack. In the video, the terrorist sect showed some of its men shooting their way into the facility. The claim comes a few days after ISWAP said its fighters killed a policeman in Suleja, Niger State. Kuje Prison Break: Fish Out All Escapees – FCT Minister Orders Traditional Rulers

The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, on Wednesday in Abuja, tasked traditional rulers in Kuje Area Council to work with relevant security operatives to fish out all escapees from the Kuje Prison. Bello gave the directive during an on-the-spot assessment of damage following the attack at the Kuje Medium Correctional Facility by suspected terrorists, which led to the escape of many inmates. He also urged the Gomo of Kuje, Haruna Jibrin, to summon all traditional chiefs in the council to combine intelligence with security agencies to fish out the escaped inmates from the community.
