Reality Tv star and rapper, Laycon has reacted to the lifting of the seven-month-old suspension of Twitter in Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari. Reacting to the suspension in a tweet on Thursday, Laycon urged his followers to get their PVC. He wrote: ”I beg of you, Get your PVC”. Precise Post recalls that the federal government had on 5th June 2021, suspended the operation of Twitter through an announcement made by the Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alh Lai Mohammed. Twitter Ban: Nigeria Loses N499.29bn As Suspension Hits 200 Days

Following the suspension placed on the microblogging site, Twitter by the Federal government on June 4, 2021, the Nigerian economy has incurred a N499.29bn loss. According to the NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool, Nigeria’s economy loses N104.02m ($250,600) every hour to the ban on Twitter. It has been 4,800 hours (200 days) since the social networking site was blocked. The Federal Government on June 4 announced the suspension of Twitter after the social media platform deleted a tweet by President Buhari. The suspension came with a directive to telecommunication companies to block access to Twitter for their subscribers. While giving his Independence Day speech, Buhari hinted that the ban would continue until Twitter registered in Nigeria, had a physical presence, and representation. Nigerians on Twitter have begun a ‘Goodbye Nigeria’ trend to comment on the rate at which youths are leaving the country. As part of the trend, Nigerians who have departed the country shared their pictures at the airport or in a foreign country, with the caption ‘Goodbye Nigeria’. The Federal Government had on June 4 suspended Twitter after the social media platform deleted a tweet by the President Muhammadu Buhari. Consequently, telcos on June 5 blocked access to Twitter after receiving a directive by the Nigerian Communications Commission.
