KADUNA – Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has urged Islamic scholars and Ramadan Tafsir preachers to strictly adhere to Qur’an and Sunnah-based guidelines to promote unity, peace and moral discipline among Muslims.
The call was made on Sunday in Kaduna by the Secretary-General of JNI , Prof. Khalid Aliyu while presenting a report on the conduct of the 2025 Ramadan Tafsir at the organisation’s Annual Pre-Ramadan Meeting.
Reports that the meeting was attended by the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Uba Sani; the Deputy President-General of JNI and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; royal fathers, Ulama, JNI zonal coordinators and other stakeholders.
The Secretary-General said Ramadan Tafsir was a sacred trust and warned scholars against sensationalism, sectarian provocation, personal attacks and the misuse of the Qur’an for personal or ideological interests.
He said monitoring of Tafsir sessions conducted during the 2025 Ramadan showed that while many scholars complied with JNI guidelines, some deviated, necessitating continued engagement and oversight.
According to him, JNI would not hesitate to caution any cleric found deviating from Tafsir ethics and, where necessary, refer such cases to traditional rulers and relevant authorities for appropriate action.
He commended the growing practice of mutual visits among scholars conducting Tafsir within the same communities, describing it as a positive development toward strengthening unity and brotherhood among Muslims.
The organisation also called on scholars to intensify sermons against drug abuse, youths restiveness and moral decadence, noting that drug addiction had become a major social threat across all segments of society.
On national issues, JNI expressed concern over persistent insecurity across the country and urged the Federal Government to decisively address banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and communal violence.
JNI condemned the recent killings in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and cautioned against sectional narratives in reporting security challenges.
It called for a transparent investigation into the alleged abduction and sexual abuse of a young lady, Walida Abdullahi, reportedly involving a security operative, insisting that justice must be served without prejudice.
The secretary-general also described the United States’ designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” as unfortunate and urged the Federal Government to engage diplomatically to address the issue.
He highlighted JNI’s partnership with AZAWON on the establishment and administration of Zakah and Waqf, urging emirate councils nationwide to revive the initiative as a means of alleviating poverty.
Reports that the meeting ended with a call on Muslims to use the forthcoming Ramadan period for spiritual renewal and prayers for peace, security and good governance in Nigeria.(NAN)
