ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former local government chairmen in Kano State have unanimously adopted the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, as the sole All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement came during a courtesy visit to the National Assembly on Wednesday by former LG chairmen who served between 2019 and 2022 under former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
A motion for Barau’s adoption was moved by the former chairman of Rimin Gado LGA, Barr. Dahiru Mannir Maigari, and seconded by former ALGON chairman in the state, Hon. Baffa Mohammed Takai. When put to vote by former Madobi LGA chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Yahaya, the adoption was approved unanimously through a voice vote.
Two members of the Kano State House of Assembly — Hon. Zubairu Hamza Masu (Sumaila) and Hon. Garba Yau Gwarmai (Tsanyawa/Ghari) — witnessed the endorsement.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Malam Ismail Mudashir, the former chairmen urged Barau to officially declare for the governorship race without delay.
Former Gwale LGA chairman, Alhaji Khalid Ishak Diso, told Barau that the people of Kano, especially at the grassroots, were eagerly awaiting his declaration.
“Kano people are waiting for you to declare for the governorship race. The people are anxiously awaiting your decision. When are you declaring? Please answer the call to serve,” he said.
Leading the delegation, Hon. Baffa Mohammed Takai said their decision was rooted in Senator Barau’s “outstanding performance” and immense contributions to Kano’s development.
“We are 100 per cent with you. Insha’Allah, you will be the next governor come May 29, 2027. You have the capacity to address the challenges facing our state,” he declared.
In his response, Senator Barau thanked the former chairmen for their solidarity, describing them as true grassroots politicians. He lamented Kano’s decline in development and commerce, vowing to restore the state to its former glory.
“Unfortunately, Kano is now trailing behind due to a lack of good leadership. Let us not live in denial — this is a fact we must address. By God’s grace, we will take bold steps to bring Kano back to its glorious days,” he said.
TSANYAWA, GHARI STAKEHOLDERS JOIN ENDORSEMENT WAVE
In a separate development, stakeholders from Tsanyawa and Ghari LGAs also endorsed Senator Barau during another visit on Wednesday.
The motion was initiated by Hon. Garba Yau Gwarmai and seconded by Hon. Aminu Yakanawa, triggering a thunderous ovation from over 100 stakeholders present.
Yakanawa assured Barau of total grassroots support.
“By the grace of Allah, you are the next governor of Kano State. Our people are solidly behind you,” he said.
Senator Barau, in his remarks, said the mounting endorsements reflected the mood of the state ahead of 2027.
On the security concerns in Tsanyawa and Shanono LGAs, he assured them that discreet but decisive measures were underway.
“We are not leaving any stone unturned. We have taken the necessary steps, but these are not matters to be announced on radio,” he said.
