At least 18 travellers were killed in a crash on the Umuahia-Enugu axis of the Port Harcourt Enugu Highway on Thursday morning. It was gathered that the accident occurred at a police checkpoint around the Lokpanta area of Abia State in the wee hours of Thursday. It was also learned that an 18-seater commercial bus was at the checkpoint awaiting police clearance when a truck driver lost control and rammed into them killing the driver and all the passengers. According to The Nation, an eyewitness, Bananas Okereke, told our reporter on the telephone that the bodies of victims still littered the scene at 8:20 am. He said: “The road is blocked by protesting bus drivers and other motorists who are asking that the policemen who caused the accident be brought back to the scene. “Colleagues of the bus driver and other road users have taken over the road, demanding Justice for the victims. They vowed to remain there until Governor Alex Otti visits the scene.”

Two children died in a lone accident involving a Toyota car on New Year day at Ade Best axis, Isara, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The spokesperson, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ogun, Mrs Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Monday. Okpe said the incident occurred at 8:00 am and was caused by speeding and loss of control. She further explained that the car ran into a ditch. According to her, five people- comprising three children, one man and a woman – were involved in the accident. “One Toyota car with registration number TTD 985 AA. The suspected cause of the lone crash was excessive speed and the vehicle suddenly lost control and ran into a ditch. “The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention while the deceased corpses were deposited at Isara General Hospital morgue,” she said.

No fewer than 17 people were killed in a lone crash that occurred at Takalafia village, on the Yawuri Expressway in the Magama Local Government of Niger State. According to a statement by the spokesperson, Federal Road Safety Corps, Bisi Kazeem, on Wednesday, an investigation into the lone crash revealed that it occurred around 3 p.m.. on Tuesday and involved a total of 229 people, comprising 220 male adults, four female adults and five male children. “From that number, 206 male adults, one female adult and one male child were rescued with different degrees of injuries, while a total of 17 male adults were killed by the crash,” Kazeem disclosed. A body has been identified to be dead in an accident in Lagos on Saturday. The accident happened on Odo Iya Alaro before New Garage inward Ojota between a Ford jeep and a truck. 3 Confirmed Dead After Multiple Autocrash In Kwara

Three persons have been reported dead and others severely injured in a multiple fatal crash along Ilorin-Jebba expressway near Shao junction in Kwara state. It was gathered that the fatal accident which happened on Thursday evening, November 11, was caused by a speed violation involving two vehicles. Nine passengers of an intra-city commercial bus were on Tuesday morning crushed to death by a heavy-duty truck in Benin, the Edo State capital. The horrifying incident took place along the ever-busy Sapele Road by Ogbelaka Junction around 7.30 am when most residents were rushing to work, offices and their business places. An explosion by a petrol tanker has left houses, shops burnt in Yola, Adamawa state. According to Punch, the tragic incident happened in the early morning on Monday.
