The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has officially refuted widespread social media rumors alleging the death of its Managing Director and renowned Nollywood actor, Dr. Ali Nuhu.
The misinformation began circulating after a Facebook user, Ifeoma Chigbo, posted a video claiming that Nuhu had passed away. Another unverified post further fueled the rumors, alleging that the actor died in a fatal car accident.
In response, the NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, issued a statement on Monday, firmly denying the claims. He described the reports as entirely false, malicious, and damaging.
“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu, our Managing Director/Chief Executive, being circulated across social media platforms,” the statement read. “We wish to officially and unequivocally inform the general public that these claims — including videos featuring Dr. Nuhu’s images — are not only untrue but deliberately injurious and misleading.”
Etuk confirmed that Dr. Nuhu is alive, in good health, and actively discharging his duties at the Corporation. He also warned that legal and administrative actions are being taken against those responsible for spreading the false information.
Dr. Nuhu was appointed as the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Film Corporation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 12, 2024.
The NFC further cautioned individuals and groups involved in spreading such baseless content, stating that such behavior will not be tolerated and could carry serious consequences, regardless of intent.
“The Corporation has initiated appropriate measures to address this troubling trend and safeguard the integrity of both its leadership and the industry,” Etuk added.
The NFC also extended its gratitude to members of the public, as well as stakeholders in both private and public sectors, who reached out with concern and support.
