ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Aspirant for the Benue South Senatorial seat, Dr. David Olofu, has intensified his consultations ahead of the forthcoming election, engaging leaders and representatives of sociocultural groups from the nine Local Government Areas of the district in Lagos.
Speaking at the strategic stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, according to the statement signed by the Adakole Elijah, Campaign Coordinator, Olofu stressed the need for transformative representation anchored on inclusivity, fairness, shared prosperity and accountable leadership. He thanked participants for their commitment and described Lagos as a symbolic venue, given its status as Nigeria’s commercial hub.
“Lagos, like London, is where time is money. Many of us, regardless of where we live, are dissatisfied with the current state of affairs in Benue South. After extensive consultations and deep reflection, I decided to seek this office,” he said.
Olofu disclosed that his decision was shaped by wide-ranging engagements with traditional rulers, community leaders, professionals and grassroots stakeholders. He explained that his legislative blueprint is built around four pillars — People, Power, Prosperity and Progress.
Highlighting the vast economic potential of Benue South, he noted that the region’s fertile lands, energetic communities and natural endowments remain largely untapped.
“From the fertile lands of Apa and Agatu to the rolling hills of Oju and Obi… Benue South is endowed with enormous untapped wealth. Our collective responsibility is to convert this potential into sustainable prosperity for this generation and generations unborn,” he stated.
The aspirant also outlined key areas he intends to focus on if elected, including agriculture and food security, education, health, youth empowerment, ICT innovation, infrastructure development, security, justice reforms, industry partnerships, diaspora engagement, as well as women, sports and community development.
He also announced plans to establish participatory platforms such as the Benue South Peoples Assembly (BSPA) and the Benue South Peoples Council (BSPC) to strengthen citizen involvement in governance.
Explaining the choice of Lagos for the engagement, Olofu said the city remains strategic because of the large Benue South diaspora population contributing significantly to the region’s future.
“Lagos is Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and the third-largest economy in Africa. A significant number of our people live and work here, and their voices are critical in shaping the future of Benue South,” he noted.
Precise Post recalls that the event attracted goodwill messages from notable leaders and professionals, including Chief Abdul, Rt. Hon. John Ngbede, Prof. David Salihu, Dr. Peter Adejo, Chief Patrick Ogbu, Barr. Jacob Ogwuche, Hon. Edwin Okpe, and several retired senior security and military officers.
Rt. Hon. John Ngbede praised the aspirant’s inclusive outreach, describing it as unprecedented.
“All dialects of Idoma are represented here… This is the first time we are witnessing such an extensive consultation. Dr. Olofu’s compassion and integrity clearly distinguish him as a unifying leader,” Ngbede said.
Elderstatesman Alhaji Usman Lungu urged supporters to mobilize for Olofu across party lines, while Chief Luke Akubo, the Och’Idoma in Lagos, offered prayers and commended his philanthropy and governance experience.
Entertainment figure Chris Adaba Aba, popularly known as Mad Lion, described Olofu’s agenda as ambitious but reflective of genuine commitment to the Idoma cause, while community organizer Madam Cynthia Egwa called the engagement a historic call for unity behind visionary leadership.
Observers at the meeting likened Olofu’s consultations to a “know-your-customer” governance model, stressing that the people possess the resources and influence needed for change if they embrace new leadership.
Precise Post further recalls that the Lagos engagement marks another milestone in Olofu’s ongoing consultations, reinforcing his pledge to pursue a people-driven, inclusive legislative agenda for the Benue South Senatorial District.
