Rabat, Morocco – (Precise Post) – From two goals down at the end of first half, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco to win the CAF Women’s Football Championship, cementing their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
In a pulsating final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, the Falcons showed grit, experience, and tactical brilliance to edge out a spirited Moroccan side that was cheered on by a raucous home crowd.
Nigeria got off to a flying start in the 12th minute when star forward Asisat Oshoala fired home a powerful low shot following a defensive error by Morocco. The Super Falcons doubled their lead in the 28th minute through Uchenna Kanu, who capitalized on a set-piece delivery to head the ball past the Moroccan goalkeeper.
Morocco, however, refused to go down without a fight. Inspired by their historic run to the final, the Lionesses of Atlas mounted a fierce comeback. Salma Amani pulled one back in the 35th minute with a curling shot from the edge of the box. The equalizer came early in the second half when Ibtissam Jraidi tapped in a rebound, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.
But Nigeria responded like champions. In the 74th minute, substitute Rasheedat Ajibade broke the deadlock with a solo effort that left three defenders behind before she calmly slotted the winner past the goalkeeper.
Despite late pressure from Morocco, Nigeria’s defense held firm, and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made a crucial save in stoppage time to preserve the lead.
The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes from the Nigerian bench and among their traveling fans. With this win, the Super Falcons have now lifted the CAF Women’s Championship a record 12 times, underlining their dominance on the continent.
Speaking after the match, Nigerian head coach Randy Waldrum praised his team’s resilience:
> “This was one of the toughest games we’ve played. Morocco were fantastic, but our players showed why they are champions. I’m proud of every single one of them.”
The victory also secures Nigeria automatic qualification for the upcoming Women’s World Cup, adding another layer of achievement to a memorable campaign.
