BENIN – Former Governor of Edo, Godwin Obaseki, has expressed sadness over the death of Chief Dan Orbih, describing him as a prominent Edo son and influential politician.
Obaseki, in a condolence message on Tuesday in Benin, said the death of Orbih, a former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, represented a significant loss to Edo and Nigeria.
“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of Chief Dan Osi Orbih, a prominent Edo son and renowned politician,” Obaseki said.
He described Orbih, who died at the age of 64 on Monday, as a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and an influential voice in Edo.
“Orbih provided leadership to the PDP in Edo as its state Chairman before becoming the party’s National Vice-Chairman, South-South.
“Through these roles, he contributed significantly to the development of the party in Edo State and Nigeria,” Obaseki said.
The former governor said Orbih’s long years of engagement in public affairs earned him a place in the political history of Edo.
Obaseki extended his condolences to Orbih’s family, friends, political associates, colleagues and numerous well-wishers.
“I particularly sympathise with his wife, children and loved ones at this difficult time,” he said.
The former governor prayed God to grant the bereaved family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
He also prayed for the repose of Orbih’s soul.
“May God grant his family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss, and may He grant Chief Dan Osi Orbih eternal rest,” Obaseki said.
Obaseki is currently a Visiting Scholar and Researcher at the School of African Studies, Boston University, USA. (NAN)
