LAGOS – The death toll from the collapsed two-storey building at Alakija, Old Ojo Road, Lagos, has risen to two.
Sixteen persons have so far been rescued alive from the rubble, following ongoing emergency operations.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, disclosed this on Thursday.
Adeseye said six additional victims were rescued successfully from the debris, increasing the number saved.
She confirmed that two persons had been recovered dead from the collapsed structure.
“Emergency responders remain on the ground and are working tirelessly to account for everyone affected,” she said.
The director said efforts were also ongoing to secure the area and prevent further dangers.
She assured residents that updates would continue as rescue operations progressed at the scene.
