ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – In a significant move to ease the financial burden on Nigerians battling kidney-related illnesses, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major subsidy that reduces the cost of dialysis from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000 per session.
The Special Adviset to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala announced this on Monday on his verified X handle.
According to him, the subsidy, already in effect, is being rolled out across major federal medical centres and teaching hospitals spanning the country’s six geopolitical zones.
Facilities currently implementing the new pricing structure include:
- Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos
- Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja
- University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
- Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri
- University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri
- Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta
- Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos
- Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare
- University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin
- University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar
Government officials confirm that more hospitals will be added to the programme before the year ends, ensuring broader national coverage.
This move follows President Tinubu’s earlier healthcare initiative in which federal hospitals began offering free cesarean sections (C-sections) to pregnant women — a step aimed at reducing maternal mortality and improving access to quality maternal care.
Together, these interventions form part of the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” with a strong focus on improving public healthcare and ensuring that no Nigerian is denied life-saving treatment due to financial constraints.
