Gunmen kidnap Anambra Catholic priest, Rev Fr Basil Gbuzuo

A popular Catholic priest in the Onitsha Diocese of Anambra State, Reverend Father Basil Gbuzuo, has been kidnapped by yet-to-be identified gunmen. The news of the priest’s abduction was contained in a release by the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha dated May 16, 2024. According to the statement, the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, around 8 am along the Eke Nkpor-Obosi bypass. The statement also added that His Grace, Most Rev Valerian Okeke, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, had called on all Christ’s faithful and people of goodwill to pray for the quick and safe release of the priest. The Archdiocese said it was also intensifying efforts to secure Fr Gbuzuo’s freedom, while committing the priest to “powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests, for his speedy release from the hands of his kidnappers.” The statement signed by the Chancellor of the Diocese, Rev Fr Prudentius E. Gunmen Strike, Killing Three Police Officers and One FRSC Official in Fresh Attack

Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed 3 police officers and one Federal Road Safety Corps personnel in different attacks in Nsukka and Udenu local government areas in Enugu state. According to eyewitnesses, The gunmen attacked a police division in Umabor Eha-Alumona in the Nsukka area council on Saturday night, killing two policemen. In a separate attack, gunmen also killed federal road safety personnel as well as a police officer, attached to the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community in Orba, Udenu Local Area, HRH Igwe Patrick Eze, also known as, Igwe Waziri. Strange as gunmen abduct six pastors in Abia

Kidnappers have abducted Archbishop Uka Uka Osim of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, his wife, Anne Osim and son, Roland Uka Osim. They and three other clergymen of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, were abducted in Abia State on May 1, 2024. They were going to Awka, capital of Anambra State, for evangelicalism when the armed men attacked them. The three other priests kidnapped were Azuka Ochu, Moses Okafor and Anderson Akwazie. The administrator of the Spiritual Organisation in Abia State, BCS, Bishop Denis Onuoha said the priests were kidnapped four days after, adding that the abductors were yet to contact anybody. “We are very worried but we are assured that the Almighty Father who they worship and work for with total devotion will help them out,” he said. He appealed to security agencies to rescue the clergymen, saying they are deep in prayers believing that the Archbishop and his brethren will be rescued unhurt. Gunmen numbering over 100, invaded a riverine community in Egan Oriomi Otto Awori Local Council Development Area of Ojo, at the early hours of today, setting several houses on fire. The Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, has been reportedly abducted by gunmen. 15 Passengers missing as gunmen attack 18 seater bus in Taraba

Suspected gunmen kill 17-year-old herder, 35 cows in Plateau

PLATEAU- Suspected gunmen have killed a 17-year-old herder and 35 cows at Nafan community in Fan District and Doruwa Babuje in Ropp District of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The perpetrators of the crime rode on motorcycles when they opened fire and killed the herder. Another herder was severely injured during the incident. LAGOS- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has called on security agencies and government authorities to intervene promptly and secure the release of its abducted chairman, Philip Aivoji. Gunmen invade supermarket in Nasarawa community, kill four

NASARAWA- Gunmen on Tuesday killed five people after invading a supermarket at One Man Village, Nasarawa State. A resident of the area, identified only as Adamu, confirmed the incident. “The incident happened between 7pm on Tuesday. One Central Bank of Nigeria employee entered the supermarket market. Police confirm abduction of Akwanga LG chairman

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Safiyanu Isa-Andaha, Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, by gunmen. DSP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lafia. The police spokesperson said they got information that the chairman and one other person were abducted around 8:30 pm in Ningo village of Akwanga LGA. JOS- Gunmen attacked 15 communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau on Christmas eve, killed 96 persons and destroyed 221 houses. The assailants also destroyed eight vehicles and 27 motorcycles, police spokesman in the state, DSP Alfred Alabo, stated on Tuesday in Jos. “On Dec. 24, at about 10 p.m., gunmen attacked 15 villages in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas simultaneously. “Findings from the assessment of the incident in Bokkos revealed that the 12 villages were attacked; more than 79 persons killed and 221 houses were set ablaze. “Twenty-seven motorcycles and eight vehicles were equally burnt down. “Three communities were attacked in Barkin-Ladi where 17 persons were killed. “Investigation and monitoring are still on and further development will be communicated soon,’’ Alabo stated. PORT HARCOURT- Gunmen on Monday ambushed vehicles conveying Daewoo workers, killed two drivers and four soldiers escorting the expatriates in Rivers. No fewer than two expatriate workers of the company were reportedly kidnapped by the gunmen. Maj. Gunmen abduct Cross River traditional ruler

CALABAR- The traditional ruler of Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River, Etiyin Maurice Edet, was on Sunday night abducted by gunmen at his residence in the council area. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that an aide to the traditional ruler was shot dead in the process of the kidnapping. The spokesperson of the state Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident but said details were unknown to her as at press time. A source who, however, said the traditonal ruler’s aide was killed as he tried to prevent his principal from being abducted. Akpabuyo, notorious for criminal activities, is less than 15 kilometres from Calabar, the capital city of the state.
