“We will continue to work with the Federal Government under the progressive leadership of President Bola Tinubu to ensure inclusive growth and development.
“As we celebrate this milestone, let us remind ourselves that freedom is not just a gift; it is a responsibility. It demands our unity, our resilience, and our faith in tomorrow,” he said.
Alia further said that the removal of fuel subsidy has enhanced the revenue, leading to numerous infrastructure developments he is currently executing in the state.
The governor said that his administration has invested boldly in education, agriculture, security, water, and human development, amongst others, adding that he was committed to the development of the state.
He stated that his administration has so far renovated 354 schools, employed over 9,000 teachers and ensured that children receive quality education in safe environments.
Alia stressed that his administration has continued to enhance health facilities, provide essential medications and improve access to services in both rural and urban areas.
“Our substantial investment in infrastructure has led to the repair and construction of vital roads, including the construction of two underpasses in Makurdi and Gboko, while work on the overpass in Otukpo will soon commence.
“We have also built bridges and rural access routes, connecting communities and boosting trade.
“Today, the Otobi Water Works has been fixed and is supplying potable water to Otukpo, Otobi and its environs. Other waterworks in the state are presently receiving the needed attention.
“We have distributed improved seeds, fertilisers and farming inputs supplied to empower our dedicated farmers and reinforce Benue’s status as the food basket of the nation.

AWKA- Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra says that President Bola Tinubu’s reforms are a necessary medicine for an economy that has long been distorted and papered over.
Soludo made the assertion during his March Past remarks to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary as a sovereign state on Wednesday in Awka.
He said: ‘I commend President Tinubu’s courageous national reforms, including removal of subsidies, harmonisation of exchange rates, redesign of fiscal and tax policies as well as other structural reforms.
“These reforms, obviously, in the short term, are bound to have some disruptive effects, including some unanticipated pains and hardships.
“However, they are a necessary medicine for an economy long distorted and papered over.
“This is the time we must rebuild our nation on a firmer foundation and I urge Nigerians to stand firm, as the road to renewal requires sacrifice.
“But beyond these current hardships, lies a Nigeria where our currency gets stronger, our economy becomes more productive and our resources serve the many, not just the few.
“I encourage all Nigerians to support these reforms and demonstrate patriotism by obeying the law and paying taxes. This is the path to a more prosperous future,” he said.

He said that Nigerians have every reason to celebrate the 65th independence anniversary as once adverse conditions are turning around for the better”.

LAGOS – The Federal Government has officially reopened the Independence Bridge in Lagos following emergency repair works.
This comes two days after millions of Lagosians were locked in hours-long gridlock, following the earlier closure of the bridge for planned maintenance and rehabilitation works.
Following public outcry as a result of the bridge closure, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, ordered the immediate reopening of the bridge on Thursday.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had apologised to residents for the gridlock experienced due to the rehabilitation of the bridge.
Speaking at the reopening ceremony on Friday, the minister said the closure was prompted by a structural failure involving the approach slab of the bridge, which caved in due to a faulty design.
He stated the initial construction of the approach slab was done as a cantilever, which was structurally inappropriate.

“It’s not supposed to be a cantilever. What we had was a free-standing approach slab, which is incorrect. Every approach slab must have at least one end fixed,” he said.
The minister disclosed that the slab failed when the sand fill beneath it leaked, compromising its integrity and posing a serious risk to commuters.

Umahi described the situation as an emergency, admitting that proper procedures were not followed in announcing the closure.
He announced plans to introduce a standardized national procedure for road and bridge closures.

“The mistake that the controller, Olukorede Kesha, made was that she did not notify us. We also didn’t adequately inform Lagosians of the alternative routes.
“Going forward, no road or bridge in Nigeria will be closed without a clearly defined process. Controllers must submit drone surveys, state the nature of the technical problem and solution, propose alternative routes, and publish this information to the public,” he said.
The minister also disclosed that the bridge is now set for a redesign to ensure long-term stability. “We have decided to redesign the project as a one-span bridge. This will eliminate the lateral head pressure on the abutment and address unknown factors such as piling depth,” he said.

Umahi explained that Lagos bridges, including the Third Mainland, Carter, and Iddo bridges, are held by skin-friction piling, meaning they depend on the surrounding sand for stability.
“Any scouring or sand excavation puts the piles at risk,” he said, noting that ongoing studies will guide further reinforcement work.”
Umahi stated that more permanent work would commence in three weeks, once the integrity of underground pipes is verified.
He also outlined a staged construction approach to minimize disruption, including splitting road works into two phases with each phase lasting about 21 days.

The Minister emphasised that future construction schedules would be designed for the convenience of the public, with some projects carried out exclusively on weekends or at night.
He added that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be involved in traffic monitoring during the repairs.
“This is not just about engineering; it’s about communication, safety, and accountability. We owe it to Nigerians to do better,” the minister stated.

ABUJA FCT – October 1 obviously signifies the day of national significance in our history as a federation of 36 states and Federal Capital Territory. For us all, it is a day of double celebrations when Nigeria will mark her 64th anniversary of political independence and celebrate her 110-year existence as a single political formation.
With these milestones, Nigeria has indeed come a long way despite challenging and turbulent times she has gone through within these periods. Yet, we are a nation undergoing socio-economic and political transformation, which I believe, will soon bring forth desired outcomes, the statement from Directorate of Media and Public Affairs,
Office of the Senate Leader, said on Monday.
After 64 years of political independence and 110 years of corporate existence, onus now rests upon us all to focus our energy and intellect on what majorly unites us as a federation rather than what will further divide us along our ethno-political and religious faultlines.
At this trying time, we must be deliberate to decisively address what easily divide us and heat up our polity in order to build a resilient federation that works for all. It is important for all leaders, political or socio-cultural, religious or traditional, community or professional, to close ranks and come up with consensus on how to end heinous challenges undermining our collective prosperity, national harmony and political stability.
Such a united front has now become imperative at this auspicious time when the review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) is underway at the National Assembly. There is no better time to review our federal governance structure than now with a view to creating a federation that is more efficient, functional and responsive.
We have already received 37 fresh memoranda from different interests nationwide. We are also revisiting 16 constitution alteration bills inherited from the Ninth National Assembly. Before public hearings on the constitution review take off January 2025, we are open to more memoranda from all interests.
Among others, we have received memoranda on the need to establish state police; adopt diaspora voting; entrench financial autonomy for local government councils; deepen independence of the judiciary; provide special seats for women in the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly and create the National Council of Traditional Rulers. More memoranda are welcome.
The process for the review of the 1999 Constitution is unambiguous as enshrined in Section 9(2)(3). It is a collective approach that requires the input of not all the federal and state legislature, but also the contributions of all interests across the federation. As we proceed with the review, we promise not to leave any interest behind in the task of forging a new path for our beloved fatherland. And Nigeria shall be better for it.
Happy 64th Independence Anniversary.
