Fake Military Officer, Others Nabbed For Extortion In Abuja 

Abuja – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Friday paraded a 32 year old man, Jack Bemdoo, for impersonating as an Air force officer, to intimidate and extort unsuspecting residents of their possessions. Another seven suspects were arrested over vandalism, “one chance”, cultism, and drug peddling in one week. The Commissioner of Police (CP), FCT, Command Mr. Babaji Sunday said this while parading the suspects. He said: “Bemdoo was arrested at Durumi Park, arrested by operatives from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command during a surveillance operation and preliminary investigation had shown that the suspect uses the Air Force kit he acquired illegally to defraud unsuspecting members of the public”. Sunday said one locally made pistol, one car, six bags of marijuana, and more than 20 yards of high tension aluminum cable were recovered from the suspects. The CP said two of the suspects were arrested by operatives from Bwari Police Divisional Headquarters in connection with the vandalism of AEDC high tension aluminum cables. Court Sentences man to life imprisonment for Trafficking in Indian hemp

By Olawale Akinremi Ibadan – Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek of the Federal High Court, Ibadan on Wednesday sentenced a drug kingpin, Tajudeen Tela to life imprisonment for trafficking 37 kg of Indian Hemp. In her judgment, Abdulmaleek said that Tela was convicted and sentenced based on the evidence before her and the fact that he pleaded guilty to the crime. “In view of the overwhelming evidence against Tela, I cannot but apply the full weight of the law on him. “As a result, the convict is sentenced to a maximum of life imprisonment without an option of fine. “The Toyota Camry and the cash sum of N67, 000 found in possession of the convict are hereby forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria. “Also, the weed substances shall be destroyed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),” the Judge said. Before the pronouncement, the Defence counsel, Mr Bassey Okon, had prayed the court to have mercy on his client by reducing his jail term.
