Former Zamfara Central senator, Kabiru Marafa, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of sidelining loyal allies after gaining power and branding him a “use-and-dump” leader.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Marafa confirmed his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) after what he described as deep consultations with his political base.
He cited insecurity, injustice, and the neglect of Zamfara State in federal appointments as his key reasons for abandoning the ruling party.
“People say I dumped him because I didn’t get what I wanted. But is politics slavery? Why do you think Mr President himself is in politics? I didn’t join politics to serve anybody; I joined to fight for equity and justice for my people,” Marafa declared.
The ex-lawmaker accused Tinubu of unfairly favoring Lagos and Ogun States despite losing elections there, while Zamfara—one of only two North-West states where Tinubu won in 2023—was given just a Minister of State for Defence.
“Would the President have allocated over ₦3 trillion to Lagos if he wasn’t in power? Would he have appointed countless aides from Lagos? Yet, Zamfara that stood by him was rewarded with only one slot. We feel insulted by this,” he said.
Marafa also drew parallels with the treatment of other APC power players, such as Nasir El-Rufai and Abdullahi Ganduje, insisting they too had been sidelined.
“Look at how El-Rufai was treated. Look at Ganduje. Look at me. This is why we are now convinced Mr President is a use-and-dump leader. That is the plain truth,” he added.
On his next political steps, Marafa said he has yet to decide but vowed that any move he makes will prioritize the interests of the people of Zamfara.
“I’m not in politics to be anybody’s slave. My parents were never slaves. I’m here to impact the lives of my people. I’ll take my time and figure out the best way forward,” he concluded.
