Adeleke sets up committee on sexual violence against women

OSOGBO- Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun, has set up an action committee to combat sexual violence against women through the mobile courts. This is contained in a statement by Malam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to the governor, on Friday in Osogbo.  The  statement said the setting up of the committee was in line with the decisions reached between the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the state government to combat sexual violence through mobile courts and other measures. According to the statement, the governor, during a visit to Minister of Women Affairs in Abuja, affirmed his commitment for immediate implementation of the resolution of the Nigerian Governor’s Forum for the establishment of mobile courts. The statement said the court would be dedicated to addressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence, child abuse in the form of street begging and expedited trial of women and children held in correctional facilities. ABUJA- The Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Mr Ali Nuhu , has said that recent deaths in the movie industry has robbed the nation of legendary filmmakers. This is contained in a statement signed by Brian Etuk,  Director of Public Affairs of  the NFC in Abuja. Actors guild declares April 11 “No Shoot Day” to honour late Junior Pope

LAGOS- The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has declared Thursday as “No Shoot Day” for all Nollywood filmmakers, following the death of actor Junior Pope and three other crew members who died in a boat mishap on Anam River in Anambra on Wednesday. NYSC hits 35 members with service extension, repeat in Bayelsa

 YENAGOA- Thirty-five members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), mobilised for the 2023 Batch A, Stream II service year in Bayelsa, have been sanctioned by the Corps for various offences against the service code. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 21 corps members, who committed various offences, had their service year extended, while 14 would repeat the service. Mrs Obiageli Okpalifo, State Coordinator of NYSC, told NAN on Sunday in Yenagoa that 1,075 Corps members passed out successfully and were issued their certificates of national service. Okpalifo congratulated corps members who successfully completed the service and commended them for their  immeasurable contributions to the state. She also commended the employers and traditional rulers of various host communities for providing a conducive environment for corps members to serve the nation. She particularly appreciated Gov Douye Diri for his welfare packages and for ensuring the safety of  corps members. KADUNA- The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a group of nine suspected ritualists claiming affiliation with the ‘Neo Black Movement, NBM’, at a cemetery in Dutsen Abba Ward along the Zaria-Kaduna expressway. During the operation, authorities seized a full jerry can containing human blood from the scene. ASP Mansur Hussaini, Public Relations Officer of the Command, while making the confirmation of the arrest on Sunday, explained that their arrest followed a tip-off after a source drew the attention of the service formation that some group of people were sighted at the said cemetery, which in turn Saye Lowcost Division was alerted. Tinubu orders installation of surveillance cameras on Third Mainland Bridge

LAGOS- President Bola Tinubu has ordered the installation of CCTV cameras on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos. This was disclosed in an interview Sunday evening. Minister of works Mr David Umahi, said the surveillance cameras would be part of efforts to counter crimes and illicit enterprise under the bridge. ENUGU- The Joint Task Force Operation UDOKA, has raided a  notorious camp of elements of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Imo. This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the operation, Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu. He said that the B44 Camp of Monday Oluchi-Ogu, located around Njaba River on the border between Awo-Omama community in Oru East LGA and Ezoiha community in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo, was destroyed. He added that three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), one RPG bomb, a motorcycle, seven Baofeng radio, local jewelries, a foreign ATM card, two SIM cards, two voter cards, plate numbers of stolen vehicles and a toolbox were recovered.
