ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian scholar and sustainability expert, Professor Ademola Adenle, for emerging winner of the inaugural World Academy of Sciences–M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace, describing his achievement as a source of pride for the nation.
Receiving Prof. Adenle at the State House, Abuja, on Monday, the President commended him for bringing international recognition to Nigeria through his groundbreaking work in agricultural innovation policy, biosciences, renewable energy, and public health, with a focus on sustainable solutions for rural and marginalized communities across Africa.
The Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy) Bayo Onanuga who disclosed this on his X handle, stated that the meeting was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari (CON).
Prof. Adenle made history as the first-ever recipient of the prestigious global honour, presented by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 7, 2025, during the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in New Delhi, India.
The award, widely described as a “mini Nobel Peace Prize,” was established by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in memory of the late Professor M.S. Swaminathan, the renowned “Father of India’s Green Revolution,” whose legacy continues to shape global food security and agricultural innovation.
Currently serving as Senior Special Adviser on Agricultural Innovation in Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Adenle was recognized for his contributions to food security, climate justice, and community empowerment.
He revealed plans to launch a new Women in Biosciences Initiative, aimed at boosting rural agricultural productivity through training, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The initiative will also combat malnutrition, tackle waterborne diseases, and promote renewable energy—especially solar power—to reduce energy poverty.
The programme will be implemented in partnership with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation across Africa and Asia, extending Swaminathan’s enduring vision of merging science with social equity.
At the award ceremony in India, Prime Minister Modi hailed Prof. Adenle as “a beacon of hope” for his commitment to addressing humanity’s most urgent challenges.
