ABUJA (PRECISE POST) — The House of Representatives, through its Committee on Pensions, is set to convene a two-day stakeholders engagement as part of legislative consultations preparatory to the amendment of the Pension Reform Act, 2014 (as amended).
According to the statement signed by the Spokesman, House of Representatives, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr. made available to Precise Post on Sunday, the engagement is convened pursuant to Section 88(2)(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), following referrals from the House plenary arising from two motions which culminated in an investigative hearing held between September 2 and September 11, 2024.
The motions focused on the Administration of Pension Fund Assets and the Plight of Retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The stakeholders engagement is scheduled as follows:
Date: Monday, 19th – Tuesday, 20th May, 2025
Time: 10:00 a.m. daily
Venue: Conference Hall 0.28, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja
Speaking ahead of the engagement, Chairman of the House Committee on Pensions, Rep. Hussaini Mohammed Jallo, emphasised the importance of inclusive legislative reform in the nation’s pension sector. He stated:
“The House Committee on Pensions is committed to reviewing and amending the Pension Reform Act, 2014 to better reflect global best practices and to address the pressing concerns of Nigerian retirees.
This engagement will enable us to capture the views of critical stakeholders in order to develop a bill that is truly representative and people-focused.”
