ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former presidential aide and APC chieftain, Lauretta Onochie, has pushed back strongly against a recent challenge by the FCT Minister and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, questioning what Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi achieved during his tenure as governor of the oil-rich state.
Precise Post recalls that Wike had, on January 7, 2026, publicly posed the question of Amaechi’s legacy in Rivers State. The remark immediately sparked reactions from Amaechi’s supporters, with Onochie amplifying a detailed response credited to Jennifer Aaron, a Rivers indigene, who outlined 50 major capital projects and policy initiatives executed under Amaechi’s administration.
In her response on her X handle account on Saturday (today) , Onochie described the inquiry as unnecessary, insisting that Amaechi’s record speaks loudly for itself. She reeled out achievements spanning education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, power, sports, and economic management, arguing that no former or serving governor of Rivers State has surpassed Amaechi’s performance.
According to the list highlighted, Amaechi introduced free education, distributed free textbooks and school uniforms, built 250 primary schools and 24 model secondary schools, and awarded over 3,000 foreign scholarships to Rivers students. His administration also constructed 160 health centres, employed 400 medical doctors, and provided free healthcare for children and the elderly.
On infrastructure, Amaechi’s tenure reportedly saw massive road dualisation projects, multiple flyovers and bridges, including the Eleme Junction Interchange, Obiri Ikwerre Flyover, Ogu Bridge, and the Iloabuchi–Eagle Island Bridge, alongside urban renewal works across Port Harcourt and its environs.
Security reforms were also cited, including the deployment of CCTV surveillance systems, establishment of modern security checkpoints, and the training of anti-terrorism and anti-kidnapping squads.
Economically, Amaechi was credited with saving ₦1 billion monthly for the state and increasing internally generated revenue from ₦2.5 billion to ₦8 billion per month.
Other notable projects mentioned include the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, revival of the Port Harcourt Carnival (CARNIRIV), upgrade of the Omoku Power Plant contributing 500MW to the national grid, rural electrification initiatives, agricultural projects, and improved waste management systems.
Concluding her response in unmistakable terms, Onochie declared that she had “no strength to argue,” insisting that Amaechi’s record remains unmatched in Rivers State’s history, adding emphatically: “No governor for Rivers State don beat Amaechi record — not one.”
