Calabar (Precise Post) — Senator representing Cross River North, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has dismissed allegations that he turned public procurement into a family enterprise, describing the claims as politically motivated and misleading.
The Senator was responding to a recent media publication that accused him of using family connections to corner government contracts, citing a solar streetlight project as evidence. In his clarification, Senator Jarigbe confirmed that the solar streetlight project in question was fully executed and duly paid for, but firmly denied having any direct interest in the company involved.
“I am not a director in the company,” the Senator stated, stressing that the project followed due process and delivered on its mandate.
Questioning the focus of the publication, Senator Jarigbe wondered why attention was being drawn to a completed project, rather than to numerous other constituency projects captured in the federal budget since 2023 for Obudu, Bekwarra, and Obanliku Federal Constituency, many of which, he said, remain largely unimplemented.
Addressing references to his siblings in the report, the Senator noted that they are Nigerians with constitutionally guaranteed rights to bid for and win government contracts.
According to him, the critical issue should not be family ties but whether awarded projects are properly executed.
Senator Jarigbe also alleged that the publication was instigated by a member of the House of Representatives, whom he accused of attempting to divert attention from his own alleged misconduct. He warned that such actions amount to “a mission of self-destruction.”
He called on those behind what he described as “politically motivated spurious allegations” to desist, reiterating his commitment to transparency and service.
Reaffirming his focus, Senator Jarigbe said his priority remains the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Cross River North, emphasizing that his efforts in office have consistently aimed at improving the welfare and standard of living of his constituents.
