ABUJA- Renowned Afrobeat singer, Skales, has attributed Nigeria’s lower crime rate compared to the United Kingdom to the prevalence of extrajudicial punishments.
In a recent interview on Just Vibes, shared on X on Wednesday, Skales said criminals in Nigeria tend to hold back because they know they could be punished outside the law if caught, unlike in the UK where offenders are more confident.
“There is lesser crime in Nigeria compared to UK because they know if they [criminals] get caught, there is jungle justice. They burn you alive,” he said.
However, the singer made it clear that he does not endorse or support jungle justice, as it involves punishment without legal process.
In another part of the interview, Skales discussed Afrobeats as a musical genre.
He explained that it’s difficult to define a specific sound for the genre, emphasising that Afrobeat is more of an umbrella term encompassing various musical styles rather than a single genre.
