ABUJA – The Super Falcons of Nigeria have returned to the country following their triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they secured their 10th continental title.

The team arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard a chartered flight at approximately 2:26 p.m. on Monday.

On arrival, Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, was seen raising the WAFCON trophy high as she alighted from the aircraft, symbolising the team’s victorious homecoming.

Tinubu to receive Super Falcons at Aso Villa after WAFCON triumph

ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu is set to receive the Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following their victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Falcons clinched their 10th continental title over the weekend after defeating host nation Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in a thrilling final held in Rabat, Morocco.

The Presidential reception is part of a series of official engagements lined up to celebrate the team’s remarkable performance, which has once again elevated Nigeria’s standing in African women’s football.

Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, alongside several federal ministers, are at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to receive the team.

The Falcons’ return has sparked nationwide celebrations, with many Nigerians praising the team for their resilience, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, four Super Falcons stars, Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie, have been named in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Best XI, following Nigeria’s dominant run to clinch their 10th continental title.

The Confederation of African Football Women, via its official X handle (formerly Twitter), unveiled the tournament’s standout performers on Sunday.

“The stars who shined the brightest. Meet your Best XI of the tournament,” CAF Women wrote.

Ajibade, who was instrumental throughout the tournament, was voted Player of the Tournament.

The Atletico Madrid forward also claimed Woman of the Match honours in three of Nigeria’s six games, underlining her leadership and attacking flair.

Okoronkwo equally impressed, notching two goals and four assists.

Her attacking contributions proved vital in Nigeria’s title run.

Nnadozie was named the Best Goalkeeper after keeping four clean sheets, cementing her reputation as one of the continent’s safest hands.

Defender Alozie, who played every minute of Nigeria’s campaign, also earned a spot on the list.

Her decisive late winner against South Africa in the semi-final was one of the most memorable moments of the tournament.

FG welcomes Super Falcons, says WAFCON victory national pride

ABUJA – The Federal Government, on Monday, celebrated the triumphant return of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, who clinched the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Rabat, Morocco.

In a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government described the victory as not just a sporting achievement but a profound testament to the “resilience, excellence, and indomitable Nigerian spirit” embodied by the national team.

“The Super Falcons have, with unmatched skill, discipline, and unity, inscribed Nigeria’s name in gold on the continental stage. They have made the entire nation proud,” Idris said.

On behalf of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government, the minister commended the players, coaches, and technical crew for their commitment and courage throughout the tournament.

“You have inspired a new generation of Nigerians and demonstrated the power of sports as a unifying and uplifting force,” he added.

Idris also reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to sustained investment in sports development and athlete support, promising enhanced resources and platforms to enable Nigerian sportsmen and women excel.

As part of celebrations marking the team’s return, the government announced a ceremonial procession for the Super Falcons in Abuja, starting from the City Gate through Eagle Square and culminating at the Presidential Villa, where the champions will be officially received.

“The Super Falcons have flown the Nigerian flag high and brought joy to millions of our citizens. Welcome home, champions of Africa,” the statement concluded.

WAFCON: Sen. Binani hails super falcons over victory

YOLA- A female politician in Adamawa, Sen. Aishatu Dahiru-Ahmed, popularly known as Binani, has  commended the Nigerian Super Falcons for their victory at the 2025 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

She made the commendation in a statement in Yola.

Binani said the remarkable victory is a testament to the team’s dedication, skill, and unwavering spirit that other Nigerians should emulate.

Binani who was the Adamawa gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election, said the Falcons have made Nigeria proud.

“Their performance throughout the tournament, culminating in this glorious win, is a shining example of the strength and resilience of Nigerian women.

“I am particularly thrilled to see the well-deserved recognition of our captain, Rasheedat Ajibade who earned the Woman of the Match award, and our exceptional goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie who was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

“They embody the excellence we know Nigerian women are capable of.

“We must also salute the goal scorers Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamulusi and Jenifer Echegini. They were all brilliant on the field,” Binani said.

ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  Amid the euphoria of victory, President Bola Tinubu has congratuated the Super Falcons over their spectacular victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday.

Tinubu who expressed his delight in a statement released on X by his Special Adviser (Information and Strategy)  Bayo Onanuga on Sunday, stated that he eagerly looks forward to receiving the trophy in Abuja.

In a post-match video call with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, her teammates, and Nigerian officials, President Tinubu congratulated the team on securing a record 10th continental title and lifting the nation’s spirits.

“I am very, very proud of you. The entire nation is proud of you. You have lifted our spirits. You are a pride to your generation and we are all very happy.

“You will be celebrated, and I congratulate all the coaches and management of the team, including the ministers and the officials,” he said.

The President extended his best regards to Rasheedat Ajibade, who emerged as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and clinched the Woman of the Tournament award.

He also praised Esther Okoronkwo’s composure during a crucial moment in the final, describing her 64th-minute penalty kick, which sparked a dramatic comeback, as “very courageous.”

Precise Post recalls that Okoronkwo created the second goal and delivered the decisive free-kick that Jennifer Echegini converted to seal Nigeria’s 3-2 victory.

Rabat, Morocco – (Precise Post)  –   From two goals down at the end of first half, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco to win the CAF Women’s Football Championship, cementing their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.

In a pulsating final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, the Falcons showed grit, experience, and tactical brilliance to edge out a spirited Moroccan side that was cheered on by a raucous home crowd.

Nigeria got off to a flying start in the 12th minute when star forward Asisat Oshoala fired home a powerful low shot following a defensive error by Morocco. The Super Falcons doubled their lead in the 28th minute through Uchenna Kanu, who capitalized on a set-piece delivery to head the ball past the Moroccan goalkeeper.

Morocco, however, refused to go down without a fight. Inspired by their historic run to the final, the Lionesses of Atlas mounted a fierce comeback. ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has approved the full payment of allowances and match bonuses for the Super Falcons, ahead of their final match against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, made the announcement while speaking with reporters in Abuja on Thursday.

He also confirmed that all entitlements, up to and including the final on July 26, had been disbursed for immediate payment to players, coaches, and officials.

Dikko described the gesture as “policy in motion” and a demonstration of a renewed commitment to Nigerian athletes under Tinubu’s leadership.

He assured that this would now be the standard practice going forward, timely payments without drama or delays.

Dikko noted that the move also extends to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, who are set to begin their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire, saying that D’Tigress will receive improved allowances and bonuses.

“This is the kind of sports administration we are building, one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity. Future generations would appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector,” he said.

WAFCON 2025: Super Falcons Face Morocco as CAF Appoints Namibian Referee for Final

Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa will take charge of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final between Atlas Lionesses of Morocco, and Super Falcons of Nigeria.

Twanyanyukwa will enter the history books as the first Namibian to officiate a WAFCON final.

Rwanda’s Alice Umutesi will take up the role of assistant referee 1, while Tabara Mboji of Senegal will be the assistant referee 2.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team will be led by Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga.

Mukansanga will be supported by Letticia Viana of Eswatini, and Zambia’ Diana Chikotesha.

The final will hold at the Olympic Stadium, Rabat on Saturday. It will kick-off at 9pm Nigerian time.

BENIN- Executive Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, Desmond Enabulele, says the state is proud to support the Super Falcons in their quest for a record 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.

Enabulele said this why speaking with Journalists on Wednesday in Benin.

“As a state, we are extremely proud to be associated with this current Super Falcons team that is making Nigeria proud in Morocco.

He said Gov. Monday Okpebholo’s investment in sports was aimed at sustaining talent by empowering youths through the sector.

“This is because the governor strongly believes in the potential of young people and is committed to empowering them through sports,” he said.

Enabulele praised Okpebholo for his prompt and deliberate investment in sports development, noting that the commitment was already producing visible results.

“Our sports development strategy goes beyond entertainment. It is about engaging young people, creating opportunity, and projecting national pride,” he said.

Reflecting on the team’s performance so far, Enabulele commended the Super Falcons for displaying exceptional character, unity, and patriotism in spite of the several setbacks.

“Personally, I think the team’s character and patriotism have greatly impacted their performance in this WAFCON campaign.

“Even with their training kits arriving late and other encumbrances, the players remained focused and reached the semi-finals conceding only a goal, ” he said.

He also commended the coaching crew for instilling discipline and unity within the squad, describing it as a key factor in their strong performance from the group stage to the semi-final against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.

“The team’s handlers deserve praise for the discipline and order they’ve brought to the camp. It’s evident in the players’ composure and determination,” he said.

Enabulele, who hailed the team’s impressive showing in Tuesday’s semi-final, expressed confidence that the Super Falcons would lift the trophy on Saturday.

“We have come this far not to emerge victorious on Saturday.

“I remain optimistic that if the players can reenact the same performances that have seen them through so far, mission X will be accomplished.”

Super Falcons hold Portugal 0-0 in Lisbon

ABUJA – Reigning African best goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, starred as Nigeria’s Super Falcons showcased flair and grit in a 0-0 draw with hosts Portugal on Monday.

The nine-time African champions, aiming for a 10th title, arrived less than 24 hours before kick-off but showed no fatigue, matching the Portuguese stride for stride.

A poor back pass by Christy Ucheibe in the 6th minute allowed Diana Silva a chance, but her effort skewed wide of goal.

Three minutes later, Nnadozie claimed a cross brilliantly before Francisca Ordega’s slick move found Rasheedat Ajibade, whose clever shot almost beat Ines Pereira.

In the 24th minute, Nnadozie made another brilliant save as Portugal pressed, but solid defending ensured Nigeria kept the scoreline goalless.

Just before the break, Ordega was denied by a last-ditch challenge, and Rinsola Babajide’s final pass was overhit, missing a golden scoring chance.

After the interval, Nnadozie made three world-class saves in four minutes, denying Silva, Pinto, and Norton in quick succession.

Substitutes Ifeoma Onumonu, Ashleigh Plumptre and Halimatu Ayinde lifted Nigeria’s tempo, and Ordega’s fine pass in the 64th minute narrowly missed a finish.

The Falcons dominated the final 20 minutes. Ordega hit the crossbar and Onumonu almost beat the goalkeeper after another superb Ordega assist.

Super Falcons duo, Francisca Ordega and Ashleigh Plumptre are in the running for Saudi Women’s Premier League Player of the Month.

The two players will battle Al-Ahli forward Naomie Kabakaba for the award.

Ordega racked up four goals and three assists in three league appearances for Al Ittihad Ladies during the month.

Plumptre, who also plays for Al Ittihad Ladies netted twice and registered three assists for the club.

Congolese forward, Kabakaba was on target five times in three league appearances Al Ahli.

Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has joined Canadian club, AFC Toronto.

Okoronkwo linked up with AFC Toronto from Chinese Women’s Super League club, Changchun Dazhong.

The 27-year-old expressed her excitement after signing for the club.

“I’m so thrilled to join AFC Toronto for the inaugural Northern Super League season and to have
the opportunity to play in Canada. It’s really exciting to be part of something historic,” she told the club’s official website.

“I’m looking forward to discovering the city, but most of all, I can’t
wait to help AFC Toronto score goals and push the club to the top of the standings.”

Sporting director Billy Wilson said: “We are delighted to welcome a player of Esther’s quality to Toronto. She is a player we identified
and tracked for some time, and we believe she has all the necessary attributes to be a genuine
difference-maker.

“Most comfortable as a centre forward, Esther’s technical and physical qualities allow her to occupy various positions which she demonstrated on the highest stages.

“She is a fantastic addition to our roster and I am sure our supporters will relish the opportunity to watch her represent the city during this new chapter.”

Okoronkwo started her professional career in France with AS Saint-Étienne, and later played for UDG Tenerife in Spain’s Liga F.

Ajibade Thanks Fans, Laments Super Falcons’ Early Departure from Paris 2024 Olympics

Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed disappointment with the Super Falcons early ouster from the 2024 Olympic Games.

The Super Falcons exited the women’s football event following a 3-1 defeat to Japan on Wednesday.

Randy Waldrum’s side lost all three group games, scoring one goal and conceding five.

Ajibade however appreciate the fans for their support despite the team’s poor showing.

“It was a disappointing outcome in the end for the team after three tough tests against some of the best football teams in the world,” the Atletico Madrid winger wrote on X.

“We thank you for your endless love and support. We appreciate every one of you. In all, we give thanks to God.”
