ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Abia State Police Command has recovered 28 human skulls and bones suspected to be those of kidnapped victims during intelligence-led raids on suspected criminal camps in the forests of Umuaku and Nneato, Isuochi.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement dated September 27, 2026, saying the operation was carried out on Saturday, September 26, as part of the ongoing “Operation No Hideout for Criminal Elements in the State.”
Chinaka said the operation followed actionable intelligence and was conducted by operatives drawn from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Cultism Unit, Intelligence Response Unit (IRU), Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and Isuochi Divisional Police Station.
According to her, the operatives were deployed to suspected criminal camps located in the forests at Umuaku, Isuochi, for bush-combing operations, as well as another suspected camp at Nneato, Isuochi.
She said the suspects fled upon the arrival of the police tactical teams, adding that the criminal camps were subsequently dismantled.
“A total of twenty-eight (28) human skulls and bones, suspected to be kidnap victims, were recovered,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson said investigation into the discovery was ongoing, while security operatives were maintaining surveillance of the area and intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc(+), mnips, JP, according to the statement, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that the state remains a no-hiding place for criminals and their activities.
The CP also urged residents to support the police by reporting security concerns to the nearest police station.
“Together, we keep Abia safe. See Something, Say Something,” the statement added.
