ABUJA FCT – The ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has entered into partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation with the aim of addressing the challenges of food security and inflation facing the country effectively.
Precise Post recalls that the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari met with his counterpart, in the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Hon Joseph Utsev in company of his minister of (State) Water Resources, Sen Sabi Abdullahi in his office in Abuja on Tuesday to work out areas of collaboration.
Disclosing this in a statement on his X account, Senator Kyari hinted that the meeting witnessed the discussion of collaborative strategies to harness the resources of both ministries in advancing the food security agenda of our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Our goal is to address the challenges of food security and inflation effectively.

The minister highlighted that they were able to establish a technical committee, named the Agric and Water Resources Joint Action for Food Security, to develop an implementation work plan. This plan will detail how we can collaborate with the River Basin Development Authorities, integrating our agricultural expertise to enhance farmer livelihoods, increase production, and incentivize youth and private sector participation. Notably, representatives from the private sector have also been involved in this meeting and will be integral to the committee.
He further stated that the Federal Ministry of Water Resources brings valuable assets, including water resources, land, and technical expertise, to this partnership.
“Together, we aim to synergize our efforts which provides seeds, seedlings, inputs, and farm machinery essential for food production. The Agric and Water Resources Joint Action for Food Security committee ensures this collaboration is effective, involving the private sector, Water Users Associations, and farmersâ associations. These stakeholders require policy support from the federal government to participate fully in the food production agenda.”

“I would also like to acknowledge the participation of Africanfarmer Mogaji, a farmer and food security expert, and Nasiru Wada, Magajin Garin Kano, a distinguished farmer, who has also provided valuable insights during our discussions.”
Kyari appreciated his esteemed colleagues from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, the Honourable Minister and the Minister of State, for joining them at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
