ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has expressed concerns over a planned protest by a group called the “Take it Back Movement,” set to take place across various states, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, on Monday, April 7, 2025.
The date coincides with the Federal Government’s declaration of National Police Day, a day set aside to honor the resilience and dedication of police officers nationwide.
According to the statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters Abuja, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi released on the official X account of the Force, while the NPF supports citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and association, it has raised questions about the motive behind the protest, which coincides with a significant national event celebrating the contributions of the Nigeria Police Force to national security.
The day is expected to attract dignitaries from both domestic and international circles, including foreign Inspectors-General of Police and diplomats.
The Nigerian government established April 7 as National Police Day to align with global best practices in honoring police institutions. The police force views the protest as a deliberate attempt to undermine the positive image of the NPF and damage the country’s reputation.
The NPF has called on the organizers to reconsider the protest, deeming it poorly timed and mischievous. The Force also reaffirmed its commitment to performing its duties within the law while respecting citizens’ rights. It urged organizers and participants to pursue dialogue with the relevant government institutions to address their concerns.
The Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, while reaffirming the commitment of the NPF to adequately carrying out its mandate in accordance with the Law and respect for rights of citizens hereby urges all the organizers of the planned protest as well as individuals who intend to join the protest to pursue dialogue by engaging the proper institution of government to press home their demands.
