ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a flagship infrastructure project of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, is already transforming commuting in Lagos—even before full completion.
Though still under construction, the completed stretch from Ogombo to Ahmadu Bello Way is proving to be a game-changer for motorists, significantly reducing travel time and easing congestion in parts of the city, the Special Adviser (Information and Strategy) to the President, Bayo Onanuga stated on Friday on his X handle.
According to him, on Friday morning, a commuter who set out from Ajah to Isaac John Street in Ikeja reported a dramatic cut in travel time, thanks to the new road. Initially facing a projected 2.5-hour journey, Google Maps rerouted them via the Coastal Highway, showing a much shorter 70-minute trip.
“I took the option and found myself on the Coastal Road. In less than 25 minutes, we arrived at the Ahmadu Bello end,” the commuter said, noting that the only delay encountered was a brief snarl near the MRS fuel station due to queues for Dangote petrol. The entire trip was completed in just 65 minutes—an impressive feat for a typically congested Friday morning.
While the highway is not yet fully open to the public, early users are already hailing it as a visionary project with the potential to reshape transportation along Nigeria’s coast.
“Blessed be the visioner and dreamer,” the commuter remarked, commending the quality of work and the foresight behind the project.
Critics may remain skeptical for now, but if current progress is any indication, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway may well become a landmark achievement of the Tinubu administration, Onanuga added.
