ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, unity, security, and inclusive development as the state celebrated its 59th anniversary.
In a goodwill message issued on Wednesday to commemorate the anniversary, Fubara said the people of Rivers State had continued to demonstrate resilience, strength, and unity despite challenges encountered over the years.
The governor described the spirit of brotherhood among the various ethnic nationalities in the state, including the Ijaw, Ikwerre, Ogoni, Etche, Ekpeye, Andoni, and Kalabari, as one of the greatest strengths of Rivers State and a critical foundation for peace, stability, and progress.
He noted that the state has remained a major driver of Nigeria’s economy for decades, owing not only to its vast oil and gas resources but also to the outstanding contributions of its people in sectors such as academia, business, entertainment, jurisprudence, public service, and sports.
Fubara assured residents that his administration would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at promoting peace, protecting lives and property, and expanding development across all parts of the state.
According to him, governance must remain people-centred and impactful, with equal attention given to every local government area in the state.
The governor also paid tribute to the founding fathers and elders of the state for sustaining the spirit of unity and peaceful coexistence over the years.
He urged youths in the state to remain hopeful, responsible, and committed to building a greater Rivers State through hard work, patriotism, and innovation.
Fubara further acknowledged the role of women in strengthening families and communities, describing them as indispensable partners in the growth and stability of the state.
He called on Rivers people to use the anniversary celebration as an opportunity for reflection and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence, dialogue, mutual respect, and collective progress.
The governor stressed that the unity and future of Rivers State must always take precedence over personal interests and political differences.
Rivers State was created on May 27, 1967, by the administration of Yakubu Gowon, when 12 states were created from Nigeria’s former four regions, with Rivers State carved out of the defunct Eastern Region.
