Abuja (Precise Post) – Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare has condemned the stigmatisation of Nigerian youths as criminals and branding them ‘yahoo boys’ before they get the chance to defend themselves.
Dare said that by doing this we are destroying both our country and its reputation as well as chances of the the youth to succeed.
The Minister made the condemnation when he took to his twitter handle @SundayDareSD.
Precise Post recalls that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday said it has arrested Yahoo Boy, Pastor for Alleged N12.7m Fraud.
Disclosing this via it twitter handle on Saturday, the EFCC said:
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe Zonal office, have arrested one Adebayo Olawale of No. 25 Fashina Road, Ile-Ife Osun State and his pastor Gbenga Moses Adesoju of Christ Apostolic Church, Ile-Ife, Osun State for allegedly defrauding one Umar Hayatu of lafiya quarters, Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State to the tune of N12.7m.
“The duo were apprehended at Ile Ife following a petition jointly written by the relatives of the victim (Umar Hayatu).
“They alleged that the suspects conspired and defrauded the victim via social media platforms and phone calls under the pretense that he won a car, some expensive phones and offer of employment into a juicy position.
The Minister tweeted thus:
“If we stigmatize our youth as criminals, paint them all with one brush as ‘yahoo boys ‘within our boarders, harass, attack & arrest them indiscriminately even before they get D chance to defend themselves-aren’t we as a country destroying their reputation and chances to succeed?
Precise Post recalls that there was no mention by the EFCC that the duo were convicted in court of law.
