The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned former Minister of Sports, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, against presenting himself as the party’s Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Dr. Christopher O. Okechukwu, Director of Media and Public Affairs in the office of the National Chairman, the party described Abdullahi’s claim as “misleading, unauthorised, and a violation of established party protocols.”
Dr. Okechukwu emphasized that the eligibility criteria for holding the positions of Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson are clearly defined. To serve in these roles, an individual must:
-
Be a registered and active member of the ADC.
-
Be elected to the position at the Party’s National Convention.
“These requirements are non-negotiable and ensure that those representing the party have the mandate of its members,” the statement said.
The party urged Abdullahi to immediately desist from using the ADC’s name and title, warning that his actions compromise the integrity of its leadership.
“The ADC finds it imperative to address this matter to preserve the accuracy and credibility of our representation. Malam Bolaji Abdullahi does not meet the necessary requirements to serve as Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson. His continued self-identification in this capacity is unauthorized and undermines the credibility of our party,” Dr. Okechukwu stated.
The statement also called on media organizations and journalists to exercise caution, urging them not to recognize Abdullahi as an official spokesperson.
“By refraining from acknowledging unauthorized claims, media outlets will help maintain the accuracy, authenticity, and reliability of public discourse,” the statement added.
The ADC reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles, transparency, and accountability, stating its continued focus on serving the Nigerian people and promoting good governance.
If you want, I can also draft a shorter, punchier version suitable for social media or online news outlets, which highlights the warning to Abdullahi without losing the key details. This often gets more engagement. Do you want me to do that?
