KABUL – Afghan authorities have begun construction of a road linking the provincial capital of Uruzgan, Tirin Kot, with the remote Khas Uruzgan district to a remote district in the southern province.
The 25km road, connecting Tirin Kot city with outlying Khas Uruzgan district, will cost more than 601 million afghanis (nearly 9.4 million U.S. dollars) and is expected to be completed within 26 months.
Mohammad Haqshinas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, said on his X account on Thursday in Kabul.
Haqshinas said that the project would generate employment for hundreds of local residents and enhance the living conditions of thousands across the province.
“Once completed, the road will streamline transportation, facilitate more efficient trade routes, and stimulate economic activity in the remote area,” he said.
The spokesman said that the initiative formed part of the government’s broader plan to implement additional infrastructure development, and agricultural projects funded through the domestic budget.
“The programme aims to tackle ongoing economic difficulties and spur employment and growth nationwide,” he said. (Xinhua/NAN)
